Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tim & Jim of Central Massachusetts

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tim & Jim. Check out our conversation below.

Tim & Jim, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes! We are dedicated, hard-working, and determined

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are Tim & Jim! We are a country duo, both from Upton, MA, growing up about a mile from each other. We met at church when we were kids, both part of the retreat team. During our free time on the retreat, Tim would break out his guitar and Jim would freestyle sing for everyone and we had a blast doing it together, having no idea that someday it would turn into what we do now. For a while, we both pursued our own individual music careers, both recording and releasing original music, and playing shows all around the New England area. In 2019, Tim got offered a show for Saint Patrick’s Day at Cheers in Boston. Not wanting to play it alone, he asked Jim if he wanted to team up for the show. We took a risk, not making a set list or even rehearsing before the show and just playing songs we grew up on, party songs, and whatever the crowd wanted to hear. The show went so well that the owner of Cheers praised us telling us we could come back anytime. From that night on, the Tim & Jim brand was born and we have been playing shows together ever since. We now have a list of songs but we still never make a set list, we feel out the crowd and still try to play whatever songs people want to hear. There have been many times that we have to figure out a song on the spot but the challenge makes it fun for both us and our fans. Fast forward to 2025, we have played countless shows including side stages for some of our favorite artists, and made so many new friends from our incredible and dedicated fanbase. We decided that this was our year to write and record our first Tim & Jim original song. We wrote a song called “Hell or High Water” and will be releasing it on August 29, 2025 on all streaming platforms!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
This might sound like a cliche but our parents. We are both lucky to come from strong supportive homes where our parents encouraged us to chase our dreams down. Jim’s parents used to take him out to do karaoke together as a teenager (Side note: Jim actually won a karaoke competition in his early singing days singing Who’s Your Daddy by Toby Keith!). Tim’s parents bought him a guitar as a teenager on the stipulation that he promised to actually do something with it (which is still the guitar he plays today). Both sets of our parents still come out to our shows as much as they can which means the world to us. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support from them.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Nah, we have so much fun doing this together that it doesn’t feel like a job. We don’t plan on giving up anytime soon!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That everything needs to be picture perfect 100% of the time. It’s okay to fail, make mistakes, mess up a chord or a lyric on a song. So many people dwell on a mistake but it’s so much better to laugh it off and keep going. It happens! We try hard to keep our shows loose and free flowing. We never know exactly where each show is going to take us, and neither does the crowd. We have so many loyal, repeat fans and we believe they keep coming back because no show is ever the same. For us, it wouldn’t be fun if it was all perfectly mapped out. And we know that philosophy doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for us!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Born! What are the odds of us growing up less than a mile from each other and both chasing a music dream individually and now together!
