Christine Williams of Lake Champlain Islands on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Christine Williams. Check out our conversation below.

Christine, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I’m a very early riser these days so most morning from 5:00-6:30 I’m doing online crossword puzzles, sipping coffee and watching the sun rise over Lake Champlain.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve had a few careers in my lifetime but for the past 8 years I’ve focused on building a custom cookie business. I’ve always enjoyed art and making things . This, along with a love of baking, helped me to stumble upon this medium back in 2016.
Going from a large city like Austin, Texas and moving back to Vermont has been an adjustment as far as volume of business so my focus this past year has been working to build up my brand and clientele base.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Living in Mexico from 2013-2017 really affected how I see the world. It’s one thing to visit a place but to totally immerse in another culture is eye-opening. I’m very grateful to have had that opportunity not just for myself but for our whole family.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear of failure or just not being good at something right away. I’m getting better at this!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d say for the most part, yes. The reason I say that is because I’m not naturally outgoing so if I’m around people I don’t know really well I am quite reserved.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes! I would be lying if I said I don’t like praise but I absolutely don’t need it. I’m self-driven but have just never sought out validation which is a good trait (I think).
