Koda Lame of Austin on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Koda Lame. Check out our conversation below.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Aye my name is Koda or people call me Skate and I’m the creative director of Lamesk8. Photography is where I started and growing up skating was always a part of my life and I turned it into a brand selling merch and skateboards and learned the tools to create the brand it is today. Halfway through my career fashion side took over, I was doing late night booths at bars and started connecting with music artists and started participating in local fashion shows so some people know me from my skateboarding days and some people know me from the fashion side

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Skateboarding taught me everything: fall down, get up and fashion taught me to do it with style and with every failed experience was a learning curve and every tutorial was a step closer to branding the Lamesk8 vision

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
On a whole lot of team shit level I love to collaborate with creatives and local businesses and I know it’s a slow journey but I enjoy what I do and if anyone is interested in a skateboard collaboration-I started a skateboard line called the “Hall Of Lame” where local businesses in creative can collaborate and earn a little bit of passive income, and you can find past collaborations on the website in the “Hall Of Lame” tab or email the team!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I appreciate this question-when I first started thinking about generational wealth and what I could pass down to my kids, my grandkids and their grandkids everyone kept telling me money is all that matters but in my opinion, I think it’s resources and a personal message that I built this company doing whatever the fuck I wanted away from “social norm” and again starting out I was told pick a niche. “You’re not Zumiez” You can either be skateboarding brand or you can be fashion designer and I said fuck that. x🖤x
