Story & Lesson Highlights with Lisa Lofty of Baltimore, MD

We recently had the chance to connect with Lisa Lofty and have shared our conversation below.

Lisa, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
What’s more important to me – intelligence, energy or integrity? I would have to say integrity. Loyalty, honesty and doing the right thing will always take precedence over anything, in my opinion. I have built close bonds with people and I have many secrets that I will take with me until I leave this earth. It’s how I’m made and I try to attract like-minded people.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have a local (Washington DC, MD, VA) hiking group that actually started in 2009. During the pandemic when everything shut down, my group grew substantially. Now I have over 340 people registered in my hiking group with about 90-100 active participants. Though we have some men, the group is largely made up of phenomenal women, all with different interesting stories.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I’d have to say my father. He was one of twelve children and grew up very poor in Kingsport, Tennessee. He had to drop out of school in the third grade to help his siblings and parents work. He eventually joined the Navy. After the Navy, he met my mom and they eventually married. My dad had a government job, drove taxis and owned apartment buildings where he did all of the maintenance. At the age of 63, he studied and went back to school to get his high school diploma. He always had a willingness to learn and to work.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d say to not ever listen to negative thoughts or negative people. Keep pressing on and stay positive.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
YES! What you see is what you get. I’m unapologetically me!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would hope that people would see that I really tried to make a difference. I tried to open up spaces for women to bond and build. And that I tried to give women experiences that they may not have ever tried and enjoyed.
