Story & Lesson Highlights with Jesus Sanchez

We recently had the chance to connect with Jesus Sanchez and have shared our conversation below.

Jesus, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I think putting in all of the behind the scenes work that no one sees. All of the pre-production and attention to detail. I pride myself on making sure I have the correct groundwork to start a project. The script, the storyboards, the shot-lists, the location, the pay, the food, contracts, and much much more. All of these things are thought out and planned before production even begins, before I even begin to reach out to cast and crew.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jesus Sanchez. I am a Writer, Director, and Editor in San Antonio, TX. I have 8 years of photography experience, 2 years of cinematography, and 5 years of scriptwriting. I am very passionate about film and the creative process,

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I take inspiration from many directors and screen writers. I read and watch everything and anything about film. Youtube and Masterclass, I absorb it all and reverse it back into my own work, in my own way.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The belief that you cannot simply label yourself as something and then just do it. It took me a long time to label myself as a Director, longer as a Writer and Editor. I think people seek validation in others in order to comfortably label themselves what they want to be. They wait until someone else calls them the title they want. I know I did.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Short term, a feature length film. Eventually, a feature that is nationally recognized.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
The importance of the entire process of creating a film. Most people are not prepared enough so they’ll churn out mediocre films. My biggest fear are my films being boring. I wish more people would take the time to study and learn, quality over quantity, always.
