We recently had the chance to connect with Letisha Flake and have shared our conversation below.
Letisha, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy was watching my only child step into adulthood and move into her first place in Towson, MD. It was one of the most emotional moments of my life—my heart ached as I let go, but it was filled with overwhelming pride and gratitude. Seeing her stand on her own, becoming the woman I always prayed she would be, was a joy unlike any other. That moment reminded me that love sometimes means letting go so they can soar.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world placed its expectations on me, I was a bold dreamer with a wild imagination and a heart full of purpose. I was the little girl who saw beauty in everything, who believed deeply in people, and who felt called to lead—even before I fully understood what leadership meant. I was creative, expressive, nurturing, and unafraid to stand out.
Before the labels, the titles, and the pressure to “get it right,” I was simply me—free, fearless, and full of vision
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me resilience in a way success never could. It showed me the depths of my strength, the power of stillness, and the importance of faith when nothing made sense. It stripped away the illusions of control and forced me to confront who I truly was—beyond the titles, achievements, or applause.
Pain taught me patience. It taught me empathy. It taught me how to bend without breaking. Success may have celebrated me, but suffering shaped me. It reminded me that healing is a journey, that every setback carries a lesson, and that joy feels deeper when you’ve had to fight your way back to it.
Because of suffering, I no longer chase success for validation—I walk in purpose, knowing my power was forged in the fire.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is part of the real me—but not all of me. What people see is the polished, purpose-driven, put-together version. The leader. The businesswoman. The visionary. And while that’s very real, it’s also curated.
Behind the scenes, I’m still evolving. I have quiet moments, insecurities, and battles I don’t always share. I laugh loudly, cry privately, and pray constantly. I’m soft and strong. Bold and tender. Publicly, I lead with confidence, but privately, I lead with grace—giving myself room to grow, rest, and just be.
So yes, the public me is real… but the full me? She’s even richer, deeper, and more layered than most will ever know.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m finally doing what I was born to do. For years, I followed the path I was told was “safe” or “expected”—checking the boxes, doing the work, but feeling like something was missing. It wasn’t until I fully embraced my purpose that everything started to align.
I was born with a big heart for helping people—whether it’s guiding someone toward a better career, creating opportunities for small businesses, or simply making women feel seen and beautiful through fashion. That’s not something anyone had to teach me—it’s who I’ve always been.
Now, every brand I touch, every event I host, and every life I impact is rooted in that calling. I’m no longer just doing what I can do—I’m doing what I was created to do.
