Harold Berry of Alexandria, VA on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Harold Berry and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Harold, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Yes plenty of times sometimes you have to think before making certain moves weigh out your options and choose the best one for your situation.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
“My name is Harold Berry and I’m a painter/digital artist shaped by a childhood in the vibrant, analog chaos of the ’90s. My work draws inspiration from the era’s visual culture—arcade cabinets, early consoles, Saturday morning cartoons—as well as the emotional intensity of my teenage years. Through both traditional painting and digital mediums, I explore themes of identity, memory, and escapism, weaving personal experiences with the nostalgic aesthetics of vintage gaming and youth culture.”

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That you have to go to college for 4 years or more to become successful. I found out that it’s not necessarily true because I know plenty of people that’s lives a good life without college. I would say do what’s best for you and what would align with what type of lifestyle you want.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It’s ok to not fit in God made you stand out for a reason. You’re not weird for being a gamer, painting for hours or getting lost in your imagination that’s your gift.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes it is 100 percent me it takes too much energy and stress to pretend to be someone you’re not. I respect authenticity it’s the best way to go you’ll get more respect being yourself in public.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people tell how I was as a friend, son, brother, uncle and a husband. Also I want people to know how I grew up and how I overcame many obstacles throughout my life.
