Story & Lesson Highlights with Dr. Sean Thomas of Brooklyn

We recently had the chance to connect with Dr. Sean Thomas and have shared our conversation below.

Sean , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Be More Today is a fitness company that provides health and wellness inspiration and information to be the best version of you. Many people misunderstand why being more is so important. For some, they believe they are doing fine and don’t need to change anything. For others, they believe they have too many obstacles to overcome so being more is not a reality’. Then you have the middle group that is looking for structure to stay focused as they try to improve. The fact of the matter is everyone can Be More today, whether you are looking to start a new habit, stop a bad habit, or set a goal for your fitness journey.. No change is too big or small to be celebrated. My two books, my quarterly challenges, my podcast, and my fitness tips all help to remind you that you are truly the best project you will ever work on.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Dr. Sean Anthony Thomas is a Licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy and the C.E.O. of Be More Today, a company that provides information and inspiration to help ordinary people do extraordinary things in the world of health and fitness.

He is the author of two books entitled “Be More Today: A 40 Day Guide to a Better Version of You” and “Project More: 40 Days of Health and Fitness”. He uses his books in conjunction with a seasonal, virtual step challenge to help people take their steps to greatness to be the best version of themselves.

He runs marathons, Spartan races, dances, and is the host of the Be More Today Show which highlights tips to improve physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Being a father

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
From 2011 to 2015, I failed my. National Physical Therapy Exam 11 times! I took the same test 3 times a year for 4 years straight. Many would have seen the challenge as a sign to give up and move on to something easier, but for me, God was telling me to keep faith, trust the process, and just be persistent. From getting my eyes checked for glasses to seeing a Psychiatrist, I tried everything and read every review book possible with no major changes in my test results.. On my 12th and final attempt, I had no choice but to have faith as it was the last time I would be able to take the exam. I passed because of my faith in God and my determination never to give up. That’s where the concept of being more began! Nothing is impossible if we have faith and put in the work. Now I dedicate my life to inspire others to never give up on their health and fitness goals and to apply that same energy to their personal, professional, spiritual, mental, and emotional lives as well.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
In a world filled with social medial influencers, it’s hard to differentiate what is genuine now a days. For me, what you see is what you get. From my books to my podcasts and workouts, everything piece of content I put into the world I have tried and applied to my own life’. I haven’t always been perfect at doing the tips and health gems I share, but I have been consistent and my goal like everyone else’s should always be to strive to be more every day. It’s never about perfection. It’s about practice and creating permanent habits to help us be the best project we can ever work. I will continue to try to be more and I hope you will do the same.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I am building a legacy in a so many ways. Be More Today is a brand that started with a book but has become so much more. From the Be More Today Show which is now in it’s sixth season to the Steps 2 Greatness Challenge, a virtual step challenge created to inspire the world to stay always on the move, being more is not just a phrase… it’s a movement. I’ve created a number of small community building platforms that will continue to grow and help others being more physically fit and healthier over time. The same way it takes time to see physical changes when you are working out, the be more today platforms are creating opportunities to show people how to be more functional, more energized, and more fit over time. What we do today will pay off tomorrow.
