Roberta Donato on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Roberta Donato shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Roberta , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My days are pretty full, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! I start by getting my kids ready and taking them to school—it’s a bit of organized chaos, but it sets the tone for the day. After drop-off, I head straight to the gym. I’ll admit it—I’m a bit of an exercise addict! It’s my time to reset and get energized for everything ahead.

Once I’m back home, I usually work on a reel. I love styling looks from my own closet and creating content that’s relatable but inspiring. After I shoot, I post everything and link the pieces on my Linktr.ee, so people can easily shop the looks.

Then I shift into client mode: handling admin work, calculating sales from their pre-loved pieces, and getting everything packed and shipped. Some days, I’m out and about—either at a client’s home doing a closet edit or shopping with them for that one perfect piece they’ve been hunting for.

By mid-afternoon, it’s time to switch gears again—I pick up the kids and fully step into mom mode. Homework, dinner, family time… and then hopefully, a moment to breathe before doing it all again.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a personal stylist based in Amsterdam with a lifelong love for fashion. My journey in the industry has taken me through designing, product development, and even launching my own lifestyle brand—but personal styling is where my heart truly lies.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping clients rediscover their wardrobes. I love organizing, styling, and uncovering those hidden gems in a closet that people often overlook. It’s about more than just clothes—it’s about making fashion feel fresh, sustainable, and confidence-boosting.

Having lived in a few different countries, I’m lucky to now work with clients virtually all over the world. No matter where they are, I’m here to help them feel their best in outfits they might not have thought of themselves.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Becoming a mom completely shifted my perspective. Suddenly, I wasn’t just thinking about the present—I was thinking about the future, and the kind of world I want my children to grow up in. That naturally made sustainability a much bigger priority in both my personal life and my work.

In fashion, that means encouraging my clients to start with what they already have. Closets are full of potential—so many hidden gems that just need a fresh eye. And when buying something new is necessary, I always suggest second-hand or vintage options first. It’s a simple but powerful way to make fashion more circular and sustainable.

For me, it’s not just about looking good—it’s about doing good too. And if we can build better habits now, we can help shape a more thoughtful world for the next generation.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Definitely the fear of failure. It’s that voice in your head that says, “What if it doesn’t work out?”—and for a long time, it kept me from starting things I was truly passionate about.

When I was designing, I was more behind the scenes, which felt safer in a way. But with personal styling, I’m face-to-face with people—it’s personal, it’s vulnerable, and that can be scary. You’re putting yourself out there, trusting your vision, and hoping it connects.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
At the end of the day, when I’ve checked everything off my to-do list and know I’ve accomplished what needed to get done. That feeling of completion—big or small—gives me the space to fully relax, be present, and enjoy time with my family. It’s those quiet, content moments that bring the most peace.
