Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Stephanie Edwards of Knoxville, Tennessee

Stephanie Edwards shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Stephanie , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I’ve recently had several bookstores reach out to me about carrying my books. As an indie author, this means a lot to me. I’m always proud when my stories find a new home where more readers can connect with them.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an indie romantic suspense author. My books are closed door or clean romances with no on-the-page adult scenes. Instead, I build rich relationships (and not just romantic ones but also deep friendships) and twisty, suspenseful stories. I love connecting with readers both online and in person at bookish events.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My middle school English teacher knew I had a gift for writing before I did. She helped me see being a writer was my destiny.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Every time I fail, I focus on what to do the next time around. If I never failed, I wouldn’t have a chance to grow.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Dolly Parton is my hero. Growing up in East Tennessee (about an hour from where Dolly grew up), I always thought she had incredible amount of character.. She gives more than she takes in life, and despite her fame, she remains humble. Few people of her status could ever measure up to Dolly.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think they’d miss reading my sassy characters’ quips.
