Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Amy Vitro & Kutasha Silva

We recently had the chance to connect with Amy Vitro & Kutasha Silva and have shared our conversation below.

Amy & Kutasha, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I was incredibly proud of our recent performance as Amor y Luz at the National Women’s Music Festival. We brought a diverse program of music, with lyrics completely in Spanish, music spanning multiple genres and largely written by women.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Amor y Luz is a Latin American classical crossover duo providing a transformational experience for audiences through powerful lyrics, sing-alongs, and dance. The duo highlights music written by women and explores soaring vocal harmonies and a vintage Latin American repertoire. Kutasha Silva is the ethereal singing siren and professional cellist, and Amy Vitro is the playful “band in a box” piquing listeners’ curiosity about what instrument she will play next. Together they are on a mission to share the musical contributions of Latin American women, spreading well-being, joy, and inspiration to all who listen.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Amy: hurtling down a hill on my bicycle and knowing I could go anywhere and get any place on my bicycle.
Kutasha: hiking through El Yunque, the only rainforest in North America, and swimming in the waterfall pools.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Amy: “Grown-ups don’t know everything. You have your own wisdom.”
Kutasha: “Don’t worry: life will give you all you dream of, and more. And, it will show up in ways you least expect it to.”

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Amy: Coming from a blue collar family, honesty has always been an important value.
Kutasha: Kindness to those who are overlooked and/or disregarded as unimportant..

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Amy: Paying off my mortgage.
Kutasha: Working toward becoming a skilled instructional designer who can work from anywhere in the world.
