Nuodi A of Downtown LA on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Nuodi A shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Nuodi, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Recently I am preparing to print my short film stills into postcards to my friends and team peers, so I am choosing a printing company, buying envelopes and stickers, etc., the process is very interesting and I am looking forward to the final products!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an animation creator studying MFA program at USC now. Most of my work is cute, hilarious, and heartwarming, and I plan to complete three short films during my MFA to gain experience. I hope to do some original projects after graduation. Since it’s summer vacation, I was lucky to get an internship at Pixar as a Story Intern, so I’m living in San Francisco temporarily. When the fall school starts, I will start working on my thesis film.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I first started creating animation, I believed that if I worked hard enough, I could become a creator as great as Miyazaki (lol), but now I think it’s certainly impossible! Because every creator is special, our experiences, ideas, and raw intuition shape our work, not to be created to be somebody great. Now I think it would be nice if my work could make people happy to watch, and in the process I feed myself and feel satisfied.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
By the time I graduated from undergraduate, I had given up on creating because I always felt like I wasn’t good enough. Later, after working and coming back to school, I made some supportive friends, and at the same time, I felt more mature than before. Now I don’t think that creating requires some kind of “qualification”,and the cost of creating is also very low in thin Internet age – perhaps the reason why people don’t give up is “wanting to create” itself.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Basically yes, I only have one version, except that at first I will be a little introverted and not very talkative

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
Haha Actually, I like to stay in bed for recharging. Sometimes I just lie under the covers without doing anything. It may sound a bit boring, but I felt very peaceful in the process.
