Ceara, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical day for me begins with gratitude—I start each morning by saying aloud, “Thank you, God, for this day.” After completing my personal hygiene routine, I head to the gym for a one-hour workout, prioritizing my health and wellness as the foundation for a productive day.
Following my workout, I manage the backend of my business by reviewing and fulfilling orders from my website, Walmart seller account, and Amazon seller account. Once all packages are prepared and shipped, I shift focus to my custom cake orders for the day. As a same-day cake decorator, I ensure all orders are completed and ready by 5 PM.
In the evening, I dedicate time to personal development, which may include reading, journaling, Bible study, or creative activities like coloring. I then prepare dinner and wind down, ready to approach the next day with the same discipline and intention.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Ceara Lockett, a self-taught cake artist with over six years of experience creating edible masterpieces in Mobile, Alabama. What began as a personal passion has blossomed into a thriving business that blends creativity, craftsmanship, and community. From elegant tiered cakes to trendy heart and star-shaped designs, I am known for my wide variety of custom creations—including imaginative, sculpted cakes shaped like purses, shoes, and bowls.
In addition to my work as a cake decorator, I am the proud owner of my own custom cake supply line, which includes Mobile’s first locally-owned gel food coloring brand which is featured on Walmart.com and Amazon.com. I am committed to sharing my skills with others through personalized 1-on-1 cake decorating classes, empowering aspiring bakers to develop their own talent and style.
Beyond business, I am passionate about giving back. I actively supports my community through philanthropic efforts, including giveaways, promotional deals, and other acts of service. As I continues to grow her brand, I am focused on expanding my cake supply line to serve even more bakers and creators across the region.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
From a young age, I’ve carried an unshakable drive, resiliency, and ambition—I just didn’t always know where it would lead me. I’ve always been headstrong, with a clear mind of my own, rarely swayed by outside influence. When I commit to something, I see it through—quietly, humbly, and with determination.
That mindset has carried me through every chapter of my journey: graduating in the top 5% of my high school class, completing basic training despite suffering two broken legs, building a six-figure business from the ground up, and most recently, earning my college degree Summa Cum Laude.
I’ve learned that comparison is the thief of joy. Your journey is yours alone. When you stay focused on your own path, you don’t waste time worrying about who’s ahead—you just keep going. And that’s exactly what I intend to do.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of the most defining wounds of my life has been living with PTSD and the lingering trauma from my time in the military. The military does a powerful job of preparing soldiers for war—but it rarely prepares us for the war we face once we return home.
Even years later, there are parts of my military experience that are incredibly difficult to speak about. That trauma often shows up in my daily life in ways I can’t always anticipate. And yet, every day, I make the courageous choice to keep going.
Therapy has been one of the most valuable tools in my healing journey. It taught me that I am human—that the things I experienced were real, and painful, but they do not have to define the rest of my life. I’ve learned that healing is possible, even if it’s not always linear.
I wholeheartedly recommend therapy to anyone who’s struggling—whether it’s PTSD, childhood trauma, sexual trauma, or simply the need for a safe space to be heard. Sometimes, just having someone unfamiliar listen without judgment can be life-changing. Healing isn’t about forgetting the past; it’s about learning to live fully in spite of it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Loyalty. Loyalty, to me, is one of the purest forms of love.
It’s not just about staying—it’s about showing up, standing firm, and choosing someone even when it’s not easy. Whether it’s in friendships, relationships, or family, loyalty speaks louder than words. It’s a quiet kind of love, but one that holds the deepest weight.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I think a lot of people misunderstand the depth of God’s love. It’s not just found in the big blessings like job promotions, new cars, or material gain. His love is in the everyday miracles—the ability to wake up in the morning, to walk on your own, to not open your eyes in a hospital bed, to simply be able.
God has revealed Himself to me time and time again, in ways that have left no doubt of His presence in my life. That’s why I make it my mission to share the gospel with anyone willing to listen. Because once you’ve experienced the goodness of God for yourself, you can’t help but speak on it.
God is truly awesome. And His love? It’s unmatched.
