We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jennifer Hoffman . Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My kids bring me so much joy. They are ten, thirteen and fifteen. I love watching them master their passions in crafting, music and sports. They are really amazing young ladies and I am so proud to call them mine!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Life Options Network supports mothers in need. We recognize that there are over seven million single moms in America and 3.3 million live on the poverty line. We understand how this impacts children and are working to bring provision in times of crisis to struggling mothers.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My father. He was a police officer but was always working on a house project. He never let me act weak. I was doing yard work with my brothers from the time I was seven years old. He showed me the importance of serving our community with excellence.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
My husband and I went through a very difficult financial struggle with our young children. We both worked full time, but still couldn’t make ends meet. I remember feeling so much shame for a long time until I walked with other women struggling to provide for their little ones. Today our story fuels me and is a reminder for me to keep fighting to protect families in need. As a Christian I believe it’s important that we get in the way of poverty and suffering wherever possible.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I’m not sure many people understand the incredible value in coming alongside mothers in need. Most don’t know that America is considered the most fatherless country. They don’t understand how this impacts things like the foster care system, poverty and the health of our communities. They also don’t understand that not helping mothers means hundreds of thousands of babies die. In addition, many don’t believe women should be valuing their children before a career. I believe women can have both, but often they need to overcome wrong perspectives and heal. I’m a big believer that healing comes through Christ,
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I’d regret not continuing to share the needs of moms and their babies. I’d regret not protecting children financially through our free stores. They are the greatest investment because they are the next generation.
Creating opportunities for children and struggling mothers is not just a good thing to do, it reaps ongoing rewards. Giving hope to people is under rated in our society, yet millions are starving for just that, hope. So many feel lost and overwhelmed financially and alone within our communities. If I quit, I believe I’d miss an opportunity for thousands if not millions of women and children to find hope and faith.
