Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Andy Sanchez

Andy Sanchez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Andy, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Perfect timing. I’ve written a couples pieces on this topic recently. I think we would all want to say that we are walking a path, maybe some a bit more loosely than others. It’s easy to stray from the path and wander, it’s also perfectly fine to do now and then. Keeps the path in perspective.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Andy with overlandnm.com

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My wife Katie for sure. She has been a constant supporter and my anchor. She’s been there since long before we were doing any of this. She’s really encouraged me to challenge myself and to take risks I may not have taken on my own. She’s been a driving force and partner throughout this, and many other ventures.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I’ve always been super sensitive to what others think, and that’s made me make decisions based on fear rather than what’s best for me. But this past year or so, I’ve been working on getting away from that. I’m starting to recognize when it’s holding me back, and I’m learning to distinguish between doubt and reality. It’s not as powerful as it used to be, and that’s a huge relief.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
For the most part I would say so. Being in this space means that I essentially document our free time. People get to see only what we want to show of course. As my social media presence has grown, I am becoming more comfortable being a face associated with our brand instead of the truck. I try to be genuine in all of our content. I’ve noticed that some of our audience lives vicariously through our content. We’ve had people from all over the world reach out and mention being inspired or motivated to get out and explore. I think being able to share an experience the way we saw it, we have to be genuine.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
A few times. Perspective changes once you’re given something. Whether you worked for whatever you wanted or if you’ve been handed things your whole life. Desire and reality can be very different when one becomes the other. I believe these events have also helped me grow and value what I have.
