Meet Adrien Prevost

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adrien Prevost. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adrien below.

Adrien, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I think it’s something that I’ll struggle with forever. Or at least something that I’m starting to learn to live with. And I think of it as a healthy thought / struggle.
Being sure is the enemy of creativity. I’m finding way more paths from being unsure. From questioning what I’m doing and how. Feeling like an imposter shows that you care. It can become an unhealthy habit / syndrome if you let it take over or if it paralyse you. But as long as it gives you perspective and doesn’t keep you still, it’s a very normal feeling that shows your involvement.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a film and tv composer based in LA. I grew up in France and moved to the US in 2014.
I always thought Id be a singer. I dreamed about it when i was kid and my mother is a singer so lots of musical hang, shared songs in the family from early on.
Music was the right track but not as a singer haha. It took me a while to figure it out but after randomly writing some music for theatre after moving here in LA, I started to find a new path and meaning to music that I’ve been very excited about since. I wouldn’t trade what i do for the world!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

If i had to pick 3 qualities I’d say curiosity, passion and resilience. But that is from my own path and experience. These will be different for everyone.
Curiosity was the fuel to get me to look further in what I wanted to achieve, getting to know myself better and simply get moving. Passion is what made me keep on following the music thread. Music always gave me a sense of belongings. And resilience because this is a world on NOs. As long as your resilience and passion outweighs the NOs, you’re good to go. And when they don’t, you simply need to step out for a bit, reassess and get right back at it.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I think knowing what our strengths are is crucial. I also think that it will always be an easier path, a more fluid direction to follow. But thats not where the work is. I think we have to work following areas that are challenging, less easy. Thats where the growth is. No need to work where things come easily. Also, there is so much more shades of creativity in the areas that aren’t paved.
