We were lucky to catch up with Megan Gersch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I don’t think there’s any “overcoming” imposter syndrome, to be honest. You can acknowledge it. You can choose to push past it… but I don’t think it ever really goes away completely.
One thing that being an entrepreneur has taught me is that you’re often a lot smarter than you give yourself credit for. No one expects you to know everything. It’s all about awareness and resourcefulness when it comes to problem-solving for your clients.
A mentor once told me that all of the real imposters never have imposter syndrome. I think that’s true.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Building memorable AF brands that make a BIG impact is my jam.
I help music industry businesses to stand out and make more sales by crafting bold branding identities, web design, and marketing strategy that converts.
It’s important to me to work with values-driven, rebellious brands who truly want to disrupt the industry.
I am very passionate about what I do, take great pride in my work, and am very detail-oriented. I go to great lengths to make sure that my clients are happy with the work that they commission. With me, you get a responsive, highly skilled designer that also knows the marketing side of things – which is critical for any business that is trying to increase their revenue and brand awareness.
I have recently launched several drag-and-drop website templates that help music businesses launch in DAYS instead of weeks (https://megangersch.com/shop).
I also have a few other tools in the works that will help concert promoters sell more tickets to their shows. Jump on my email list to stay in the know for when they drop!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Mastery of your craft. Become the best that you absolutely can be at what you do. Not only will you be able to develop a portfolio that stands out from the rest, but you’ll also stay at the top of your game when it comes to software updates and tech improvements.
2. Willingness to take risks. All of the best things in my life have happened because I took a chance. Bet on yourself – you’re worth it and good things will happen if you do.
3. Adaptability. With any initiative, you want to give it a good 6 months of testing it out, but if something isn’t working after that period – you don’t have to keep doing it. Analyze your numbers and do more of what is giving you the best results / joy / fulfillment.
How would you describe your ideal client?
I love to help women-owned music businesses build their brands.
My ideal client prioritizes good communication, thinks outside of the box, and has a collaborative working style.
Most often, these are businesses that have been open for a few years, have had some success with their first clients, and are ready to overhaul their brand to really kick things into high gear and scale.
