We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jhirmeilya “Jai” Lockett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhirmeilya “Jai”, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I overcame impostor syndrome by first realizing it wasn’t just a battle in my mind—it was a spiritual attack against my identity. The enemy wanted me to question who God called me to be, to shrink back, and to disqualify myself before I even showed up.
For years I wrestled with feeling invisible, even in the church. That’s why Daughters of Zion was birthed—because I knew what it felt like to have a voice but not feel heard. And that same feeling showed up when I stepped into new spaces as an author, a businesswoman, and a speaker.
Even when I was in the corporate office serving as a director, I found myself shrinking so that others could shine—yet I knew their voice was not bigger than the God I serve. That taught me that impostor syndrome is really rooted in comparison. And comparison kills confidence.
What shifted everything was obedience. The moment I decided to stop trying to prove myself to people and instead walk fully in the NOW of God, impostor syndrome began to lose its grip. I learned that I’m not here because of man’s approval; I’m here because God approved me before the foundation of the world.
Practically, I overcame it by:
•Speaking life over myself daily—declarations like, “I am chosen, I am equipped, I am trusted with this assignment.”
•Staying rooted in scripture—reminding myself of 2 Corinthians 3:5, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves… but our sufficiency is of God.”
•Moving in faith even when I didn’t feel “ready.” Each step of obedience built confidence.
So I didn’t just “get over” impostor syndrome—I replaced it with God-confidence. Whether in ministry, business, or the boardroom, my confidence now flows from who He says I am.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My story has always been about one thing—bringing hearts back to Jesus Christ. For years, I knew what it felt like to be overlooked, to feel invisible, and even to shrink so others could shine. But I also knew God had placed something greater inside of me, and that my life was not about titles or platforms—it was about souls.
That’s why I birthed Daughters of Zion, which later transitioned into H.E.R. Move—Healed, Embraced, Restored. Through H.E.R. Move, my mission is not to build followers for myself, but to point women back to their first love, Jesus. At the same time, through Just Us HR Consulting Firm, I merge faith and strategy to help leaders and organizations operate with Kingdom excellence.
What excites me most is not the size of a stage or the growth of a brand, but watching lives transformed—seeing women healed, men and women restored, leaders rise up with integrity, and people discover their God-given identity.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding both sides of my calling: releasing new books and resources that bring clarity to the Body of Christ, while also equipping businesses and organizations to function with excellence and purpose. But at the end of the day, my brand is not about me—it’s about impact for the Kingdom. My prayer is simple: that every room I enter, whether ministry, corporate, or creative, people don’t see me—they encounter Christ.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that impacted my journey the most were:
1. Faith & Obedience to God – More than talent or titles, what kept me was learning to trust God’s timing and voice above my own insecurities. Obedience opened doors that credentials alone never could. My advice: don’t wait to feel ready—move when God says move, and He will equip you along the way.
2. Resilience & Boldness – I had to learn not to shrink back, even in corporate spaces where I once silenced myself so others could shine. Resilience means showing up even when you feel unseen, and boldness means knowing the God in you is bigger than the room you’re in. My advice: practice speaking up—your voice is needed.
3. Vision with Strategy – It’s not enough to just dream; you have to write the vision and make it plain. Whether through H.E.R. Move or Just Us HR, I learned that excellence matters. My advice: take time to set clear goals, surround yourself with wise counsel, and stay disciplined—strategy protects the vision God gave you.
The biggest thing I tell people starting their journey is this: don’t despise small beginnings. Build your faith, build your confidence, and build your skillset. And always remember—your identity is not in the work, it’s in Christ. When you keep Him first, the rest will align.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book that has played a pivotal role in my development is The NOW of God: Walking in Divine Alignment. This book reminded me that timing in God’s Kingdom is everything, and that we cannot rush or delay what He has ordained. One of the most impactful lessons I took from it is the importance of stepping into God’s NOW—moving when He says move, even if we don’t feel ready or the circumstances aren’t perfect.
It also reinforced the power of alignment: our actions, our words, and our hearts must line up with God’s purpose. When we are aligned with Him, doors open, assignments are confirmed, and the enemy’s strategies are neutralized. Finally, the book helped me realize that divine timing requires patience and faith; we must trust that what God has prepared for us is already working behind the scenes, even when we can’t see it yet.
For me, this isn’t just a principle for ministry or business—it’s a lifestyle. Walking in the NOW of God has reshaped how I approach every decision, every platform, and every assignment.
