Meet Abby Case

We recently connected with Abby Case and have shared our conversation below.

Abby, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I haven’t. Imposter syndrome is something that I continue to struggle with. I think it’s something many creators struggle with. What I do to deal with imposter syndrome is something anybody can do. When I’m feeling overwhelmed by the feeling that I’m not good enough to do photography I take a step back. I make a mental list of how many photographers I follow, then I remind myself that I follow a lot of other photographers. Many people don’t, so the amount of great photographers that I see every day on my feeds is astronomical compared to what non photographers see on theirs. I remind myself that I look at my work constantly and pick it apart. Other people don’t look so closely and continually at my work as I do. It helps to ground me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a portrait photographer, I am expanding into creative photography and self portraits. I have done photography as a hobby since I was young. I am in the price of turning my passion into a business. I am not concerned with how much money I make but with the impact I will leave on my viewers. I want them to feel moved and feel the confidence in the model and a connection to the price. I chose my name Bea Cause Photography after my great grandmother. Her name was Bea and I got told growing up I had her spunk. I have had an obsession with bees my whole life. The name just made since to me. I do my work in the tri-cities mostly ( anywhere from Kingsport to Knoxville), but occasionally I post when I’m traveling and try to pick up clients on the way. I would love to make anyone feel confident and to hear from all.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
To improve you need to enjoy the process. If your just doing something to do it, you’ll get no where. You have to have fun and let loose. I took advice from anybody who would give it to me. Work with people who have made something of their art. Any confident artist will share their knowledge, not gatekeeper it. The photography community has become a bit more open with information than it used to be. The biggest piece of advice I can give is learn to talk to people. Talk to strangers every where you go, learn their story, and give a smile. This will get you far not only in the business but in life itself.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Always! I want to collaborate with any and all. Models and photographers. I love to meet people and learn from them. I know that I will never know everything and encourage people to offer advice. I will never make anyone feel bad for offering advice, and I will try any trick at least once. I love people who love people. Anyone who wanted to collaborate with me could contact me through my Instagram : bea.causephotography . I would love to hear from them and plan a photoshoot!
