Liza Slaughter on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Liza Slaughter shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Liza, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Coffee is first of course. I then put on my energizing eye masks, eat breakfast and drink coffee usually with my favorite show on. I will ice roll my face, do red light therapy, the vibration plate for 10 mins, and then hit the sauna before getting dressed to head off to the gym!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Liza Slaughter. The lead on Netflix drama feature ‘Full Out 2: You Got This!’, Lead in upcoming Netflix film ‘Love’s Perfect Song’, Lead in comedy feature ‘Pickleball Murders’ on Amazon Prime, and lead in 1800s western Dawn at Dominion. I am Sweet, Sassy, but a strong cup of coffee. You can find me in the worlds of TV/Film in historical and period dramas, action and adventure shows, and Epic Fantasies.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom hands down. She is a creative herself and taught me how to create in dance, acting, and in life in general. She believed in me first along with my dad! They have always been my biggest supporters along with my amazing husband. My mom saw my love for acting and she quickly jumped into being a ‘Mommy Agent’ as I called her. She did everything to help me with my dream from taking me to professional acting classes at 16 in the city, taking me to get my first headshots, helping me get an acting scholarship, and eventually landing my first agent. Without her guidance, support, and seeing me before I saw myself I wouldn’t have the confidence I have now in my art.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
My husband always listens to me and supports me in life and my career. He is my reader in all my auditions, provides a steady life for us in between my bookings, and he has even taken some of my headshots! He is my steady support who doesn’t allow me to give up and spurs me on everyday with his love and encouragement. Love you honey!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I will never give up on myself and the work I have put into this art. I believe I have a unique voice as an actress and I am confident and excited to keep sharing it with the world on larger scales.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I have aquired a non judgmental deep empathy for others. As an actress I have the pleasure of seeing into other worlds and understanding different types of human experiences. When you are a character, you will not be able to truthfully play the character if you are judgmental of their actions. Therefore you have to have deep empathy to understand every human problem, action, and reaction. As this muscle has strengthened for me as an actress, it has translated to my life having more empath for those around me.
