Margrit Erika Tendencia of Philippines on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Margrit Erika Tendencia and have shared our conversation below.

Margrit Erika, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Launching my newest yoga program, Journaling, Yoga, and Nature, has filled me with both joy and pride. As a National Geographic Certified Educator and lifelong nature lover, I feel most alive when I’m surrounded by beauty and stillness. This practice has deepened my appreciation for life and strengthened my connection with my inner self. Journaling helps quiet my mind and opens space to truly listen within, while yoga releases tension and brings freedom to my body. Sharing this passion with my community brings me immense joy and a profound sense of fulfillment.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the Founder and Lead Teacher of Flexeclass an innovative online English academy based in the Philippines. As a Licensed Professional Teacher and AB English graduate with Latin Honors, I bring academic excellence and strategic leadership to curriculum development, teacher training and educational innovation.

I’m also a certified Classical Pilates teacher and movement educator dedicated to helping people build strength, balance, and resilience through mindful, functional movement. With training in Ashtanga and Yin Yoga alongside my Classical Pilates certification from Smart Movement International, I offer a holistic teaching style that blends precision, breath, and body awareness—making Pilates accessible and empowering for all fitness levels.

My teaching emphasizes the core principles of Pilates—control, concentration, and flow—while integrating my strong foundation in yoga to create a well-rounded approach that supports posture, mobility, and overall wellbeing. My sessions are designed not only to strengthen the body but also to cultivate presence and confidence, helping students carry the benefits of Pilates into daily life.

During the pandemic, I pioneered Learn English Through Movement, an innovative program that uniquely combines Pilates and yoga with language learning. This initiative has supported students worldwide in countering the effects of tech posture while fostering cultural exchange and improving English fluency.

My passion for progressive, tech-integrated education is reflected in my recognition as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, Google Certified Educator (Level 1), Apple Teacher, and National Geographic Certified Educator. My work in wellness and education has been featured in Canvas Rebel and Bold Journey US Magazine, and in 2024 I was honored to attend The Wall Street Journal Annual Conference in Singapore.

Most recently, I launched Journaling, Nature, and Yoga, a reflective wellness program designed to support students’ mental health through movement and self-expression. Through all my work, I continue to design inclusive and inspiring programs that bring the principles of Pilates—strength, alignment, and mindful connection—into every body’s journey toward wellbeing.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was once a shy, timid individual with a simple dream: to make a difference and discover my true purpose in life. Deep down, I always sensed I was different—my perspectives often stood apart from the crowd. Over time, I came to realize that this uniqueness was not a flaw, but a calling. Fate had carved a path for me that was meant to be larger, more impactful.

While many women my age dream of building families, my vision has been centered on building a career that educates, inspires, and empowers women. My mission is to help them embrace self-discovery, pursue their passions, and grow into the best versions of themselves through continuous self-development.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Adversity has been my greatest teacher. Through suffering, I learned resilience and gained a deeper understanding that challenges are not roadblocks but stepping stones—essential experiences that allow me to truly value success when it comes. Difficult moments have also sharpened my problem-solving skills, shifting my focus from worry to resolution. Instead of dwelling on what is beyond my control, I ask myself a simple but powerful question: What can I do differently to emerge stronger from this situation?

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m currently developing two unique yoga-based programs: Learn English through Movement and Journaling, Nature, and Yoga. These initiatives are not driven by profit, but by a vision of promoting wellness in schools while helping students strengthen their English skills in meaningful, creative ways.

Through yoga, cultural exchange activities, and reflective journaling, I hope to inspire students to express themselves, discover the power of words, and connect more deeply with the world around them. By observing and writing about nature, they can nurture both mindfulness and creativity—skills that not only reduce stress in the classroom but also cultivate the voices of future writers.

My dream is to bring these programs to schools across the globe, in collaboration with colleagues and networks from Microsoft, Apple, Google, and National Geographic, extending the reach of wellness, language learning, and creativity to students everywhere.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I believe that as fellow travelers in this world, it is far better to be remembered for one’s character than for wealth or prestige. My hope is that people will recall meeting a kind soul who shared her passion for language, yoga, and Pilates with openness and joy. I aspire to inspire young minds to dream boldly, to embrace creativity, and to recognize the beauty that surrounds them each day.
