Slimtronic5k shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Slimtronic5k, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My normal day:
I sleep until I wake up. Because of my weird schedule between performing and recording, it’s hit or miss whether I actually get any rest.
Once I’m up, I meditate and reflect.
Then I head to my home studio to tackle admin and marketing tasks and map out a to-do list before rehearsing. I practice every day not only to stay fresh, but to get myself in the mood to write music. Often, entire songs emerge from something that sparks my creativity mid-practice.
Next, I let my creativity run wild—writing music, lyrics, poetry, stories, even short-film scripts. Most of it’s rough, but I save work tapes of everything in case I find a use for it later.
After that, I hit the pool or gym for a workout before gearing up to perform. I play about 285 gigs a year, so it’s basically a daily routine: roll into the venue, soundcheck, then hit the stage.
Once the gig’s done, it’s either home to bed or back to the studio to record—before I finally crawl in and start it all over again.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
“Outlaw Blues”—a strange brew of blues, soul, outlaw country, and Americana that somehow works. That’s exactly what you can expect (and more) from Slimtronic5k & The Rebellion as the musical equivalent of “we don’t know what we’re doing, so let’s just make something up.” After spending way too much time trying to find the perfect sound (and failing), they decided to invent their own genre.
Frontman Slimtronic5k? Well, he’s just some guy who sings like he’s got something to prove but forgot what it was. The real brains behind the operation? Caleb Neff (Rosaline, Juniper Recording Studio), the band’s leader and producer who keeps this musical circus from completely falling apart.
Catch Slimtronic5k & The Rebellion touring the southern region in 2026. Will they change your life? Probably not. Will you fall hopelessly in love with them? Also probably not. But will they make you question your taste in music? Absolutely.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother, Pam (who I call “Lou” because she hates it—and who am I if I’m not driving my mom nuts?) is not only the best musician I know, she’s also the hardest worker. Her grind and hustle are unmatched, and growing up watching her TCB gave me the drive to pursue my career and dreams with near-reckless abandon.
I learned so much from her—music, performing, singing, band-leading, creating vibes—and she put me on stage as soon as I could toddle around. That early start set me up for the incredible career I have now. I’m forever grateful!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time I wanted to give up—and pretty much did—for almost three years. I ran away from music and moved to Colorado to work as a ranch hand at an alpaca ranch (yes, 100% true). I got as far away from music as I could and spent my days hanging out with dirty animals.
I thought music was the cause of my problems, when in reality it was what healed them.
After three years in Colorado—nearly losing my soul entirely—I came back home to SW Florida and dove right into my new solo career. I’ll never even consider giving up again!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Without hesitation, I can say my wife, Laura Beth, is the greatest human I’ve ever met. She’s absolutely teeming with character. She values integrity above all else, and it shows in every aspect of her life.
She is the most Christlike person I know, choosing to see past what others call “faults” to find the real person inside—and she’s always the first to meet people where they are and address their needs.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I believe immortality is real through legacy. So that’s what I’m building. After this body is gone, you can still spend time with me by reading my stories and poetry, listening to my songs, watching my videos—all will live on forever long after I’ve reconnected with the love of the universe.
