We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jillian Gundy. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jillian, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
On the business side, people see a body care brand. But what I see are the foundations of what we truly believe in, a clean lifestyle and the choices we make as a growing family. Living well is about daily decisions, positive thinking, working hard, and teaching our children values that last. Homeschooling has also transformed our family. We’ve even grown a YouTube channel, Jilly Bee’s Corner, to help parents easily teach their children in a fun way. It includes anything from ABCs to math, bugs, snakes, careers, and more.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the founder of Tiki Hut Life, a family-owned skincare and home care line dedicated to toxin-free living. We create everything from goat milk soaps and salves to detox baths, laundry powders, and more. What makes us unique is that this isn’t just a business, it’s our way of life. Our products are an extension of how we live as a family and how we want to help others live clean, healthier, and happier.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Growing up, I was an animal-loving, free-spirited, ocean soul who wanted to take care of everyone. Over the last few years, life has changed all of us. I don’t think anyone has escaped loss, fear, or unexpected changes. For me, motherhood was the turning point. I gave birth at the start of the pandemic, and becoming a mom made me determined to protect my children. Our world has so many hidden toxins in the air, water, food, and products that I wanted to create as close to a toxin-free environment as possible for my family. And now, I feel blessed to share that with families all across the country.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. The last five years have been full of change from moving states, welcoming children, and navigating my husband’s deployment. Sometimes it was exhausting just trying to keep up with sourcing consistent ingredients and keeping the business going. But thanks to my strong family and our loyal customers who always reminded me how much they appreciated our products, I kept going. That encouragement helped me push through and keep building.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I don’t admire just one person, I admire many. I admire people for their integrity, for standing in their truth, and for sticking to their beliefs. For choosing what’s right even when it’s hard. For taking the greater, less-traveled path. And especially those who are willing to help others along the way. We all have power, but it’s how we use that power to create positive change that defines who we are.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I was raised in a family of hard workers, but we were each encouraged to follow our own paths. Motherhood is one thing I always knew I wanted, and I’m blessed to be living it. I’m a proud “boy mom.” My sons are loud, wild, and free, and their vibrancy makes me smile every day. I also have the privilege of working from home and homeschooling them. For me, teaching goes beyond academics It’s about raising them the way I was raised. To be free-spirited, curious, and connected to the world around them. Just like my own roots, I want them to grow with courage, kindness, and a love for living fully.
