Story & Lesson Highlights with Dr. Erica Hubbard

We recently had the chance to connect with Dr. Erica Hubbard and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day of relaxation includes listening to classical music, working on my vagus with techniques, tapping therapy, sound bowl classes, reading a great self-help book, meditating and doing breath work for wellness and exercising.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been working professionally in the film and television industry for over 30 years as a union member. Some individuals know me from Lincoln Heights, Let’s Stay Together , Chicago Med, Akeelah and The Bee, Save The Last Dance, Everybody Hates Chris or The Family Business: New Orleans. I have done theater as well. I graduated from Columbia College with a Bachelor’s where I earned a degree in Journalism. Recently, I just received a certification from taking a course at Yale Universities in The Science of Wellness. Harvest Christian University gave me an Honorary Doctorate Degree in which I was very honored to receive. Currently, I am working on my documentary, Surviving Minimum Wage releasing soon that I directed and produced.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believed as a child growing up that all adults are mature. Now that I am older and wiser I know that not to be true. Maturity levels is based on case by case with each individual and if their frontal lobe grew correctly from childhood. There is a science behind if a person’s frontal lobe is deformed and it directly effect’s their decision making skillset.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there have been plenty of times I almost gave up on my dreams due to the people around me and lack of support. It took me awhile to figure out that centering myself around optimistic individuals who believe in me and encourage will always help make my dreams come true!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is most definitely the real representation of myself. I studied and found the highest way to operate in life to attract opportunity is live in your fullest authentic self. Being a very transparent individual connects people together in a truthful manner. “What you see is what you get” and spread love!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
The one truth, I know to be evident is that it’s spiritually rewarding to help and give-back to your community in a positive manner that helps people, and I guarantee you will be blessed in return. As a philanthropist it is marvelous to celebrate humanity and help inspire as well as empower individuals! As the Executive Director of The Erica Hubbard Foundation it has been a joy to help at-risk you in communities across the globe giving scholarships and mentorship.
