We recently had the chance to connect with The Neaths and have shared our conversation below.
The, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, what’s been bringing us the most joy lately is spending time together in the Word, reading the Bible and the Apocrypha, and really diving deeper into our faith. We love praising and worshiping the Most High YAH as a family, and it’s been so refreshing to grow spiritually side by side. That time of prayer, study, and worship not only strengthens our marriage, but it also inspires how we run Jerk Tavern, with love, purpose, and gratitude.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We’re The Neaths, the husband-and-wife team behind Jerk Tavern. What makes our brand special is that it’s more than just food; it’s about faith, culture, and family. We built Jerk Tavern out of our love for Jamaican flavors and our passion for creating meals that bring people together. At the same time, our faith in Jesus and our walk with the Most High YAH guides us in everything that we do, from how we run our business to how we connect with our community. For us, it’s about sharing not only delicious, authentic recipes but also love, joy, and a sense of purpose. Right now, we’re excited to keep growing Jerk Tavern by creating new recipes, building our online community, and using our platforms to inspire others to celebrate culture and faith through food.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how we see ourselves is our relationship with the Most High through Jesus. Our faith grounds us, reminds us of who we are, and guides the way we live and work. Alongside that, our marriage has been a beautiful reflection of that relationship; learning to love, forgive, and support each other daily has shaped us both into better people. Together, those two relationships, our covenant with GOD and our covenant with each other, are the foundation of who we are and how we move through life and business.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If we could say one kind thing to our younger selves, it would be: Trust in GOD’s timing and His plan for your life. Don’t rush or compare yourself to others. Every step, every challenge, and every blessing are shaping who you are meant to be. Stay faithful, stay patient, and keep leaning on Him; he will guide your path, both in life and in your dreams, including building Jerk Tavern.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
One cultural value we protect at all costs is family and community connection. In Jamaican culture, sharing meals, traditions, and time together is sacred, and it’s something we carry into Jerk Tavern. We believe food is more than nourishment; it’s a way to bring people together, celebrate heritage, and honor GOD by serving others with love and care. Protecting that sense of togetherness, respect, and generosity is at the heart of everything we do.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. We believe that giving our best isn’t about recognition, it’s about honoring GOD in everything we do. Whether it’s in our marriage, our walk with Him, or running Jerk Tavern, we strive to serve with excellence, love, and integrity, even if no one notices. Our reward comes from knowing we are faithful and doing things with purpose, not just for applause.
