Hadassah Treu shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Hadassah , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now starts with a healthy breakfast and time for journaling, reading, and prayer. Then I usually go to the gym, followed by a walk to the local market and a cup of coffee in the park nearby. In the afternoon, you can find me on my laptop working, usually until 8 pm. After that, I take time to relax with cooking, or meeting friends.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an award-winning international author, blogger, poet, speaker, and spiritual growth mentor, living in Bulgaria, Europe. I am the Encouraging Blogger Award Winner for 2020, the Literature Award Winner of the Municipality of Pazardzhik, Bulgaria for 2024, and a winner of the National Literary Translation Award “Stoyan Bakardzhiev”, Bulgaria for 2025. I love to encourage and motivate people to stand firm in the faith and grow spiritually by applying biblical truths in their lives. I enjoy diving deeper into the Word of God and finding hidden treasures. My blog Onthewaybg.com is on the Top 100 Faith Blogs (spot 19) on the web by Feedspot in 2025.
I am also a professional member of the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) and a COMPEL Pro Training member, leader, and contributor.
My writing has been featured on over 70 popular faith-based publications like The Upper Room, (In)Courage, Proverbs 31 Ministries, Her View From Home, Living by Design Ministries, Thoughts About God, Aletheia Today, Today’s Christian Living, The Way Back to Ourselves, and other popular sites and podcasts.
I am also a contributing author to 14 devotional and poetry anthologies and the author of 2 poetry books in Bulgarian: “A Guarantee for Another Life” and “Memories Keeper.”
My first solo book, “Draw Near: How Painful Experiences Become a Birthplace of Blessings,” with Calla Press Publishing, was released in 2024. It is for the hurting hearts that pass through hard times, asking what God can use their pain for. I wrote this book for all meaning-searching and hope-hungry souls out there.
As no stranger to suffering and loss, I deliver a powerful message of comfort and hope from the platform of my greatest pains, equipped with lessons gathered on the way.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Interestingly, the relationship that shaped most of how I see myself was the relationship with my husband. I married relatively late, when I was 30 years old, and it was love at first glance (something I didn’t believe in). My husband called me “my princess” and he treated me in this way. I felt loved, cherished, protected, understood, and supported. He was my greatest cheerleader, encouraging me to follow my dreams and fiercely believing in me. I felt at home with him. He saw me through the eyes of love, friendship, and devotion, and this shaped how I saw myself, too. I dared to follow my dreams with his help and constant encouragement. His support was instrumental in starting my work as a blogger, freelance writer, and author.
Through his eyes, I saw myself as beautiful, worthy, and capable.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
As a recovering perfectionist, I think what held me back most of my life was insecurity and the fear of failure, often expressed in hesitation, difficulty making decisions, and unwillingness to take risks. Most often, the root of insecurity is simply the realization that our resources, strength, talents, knowledge, and qualifications are insufficient to accomplish what we are called to do. We feel inadequate and unqualified.
Sometimes, we start very enthusiastically, full of zeal, only to find out that things do not develop as we plan and imagine. And that there are so many obstacles and challenges on the way. We receive a rejection. A door closes. We want to move forward, but it seems we go backward or on a side road, taking us away from what we envisage. We fail.
Our insecurity throws its painful questions and statements. “Why did you start this at all?” “It is madness to think you will ever succeed with this”, “You lack the knowledge and resources”, “You are not qualified to do this”, “You are just nobody,” and the most poisonous, “Why don’t you just give up and stop pursuing this?”
But with time, I learned it is better not to avoid but to embrace failure. Without failure, there is no true success. Failure is a great teacher, exposing the condition and motivations of our hearts and keeping us on the path of humility. It is a necessary instrument to grow and mature, and become strong and resilient.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My lifelong mission is to encourage hurting souls to trust God in the darkness of faith and adversity so they can endure and keep their faith.
My faith in God and my passion to draw and direct others to a life of faith and spiritual growth are also beautifully captured in my name, Hadassah.
This was the Jewish name of Queen Esther in the book of the same name in the Old Testament. Hadassah means myrtle. The myrtle is a symbol of peace, joy, and marital, covenant love. The myrtle bush has star-shaped flowers with 5 white petals. The white color symbolizes purity and righteousness, and 5 is the number associated with God’s grace. When the leaves of myrtle are crushed, they give a pleasant fragrance. This is due to the essential oils in them; that’s why they are used in medicine and cosmetics.
This is also one of the plants associated with the last festival of the Jewish calendar – Sukkot, which points to maturity, harvesting, and fruit gathering. And last but not least, the expanded meaning of the word Hadassah is “Behold the open door” – revealing to us the pathway and the direction to enter. Where? Into God’s rest, love, and grace.
This is my desire and mission, beautifully captured in this verse:
“And the wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament of heaven, and those who turn many into righteousness, as the stars for ever and ever.” (Daniel 12:3)
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will see and tell my story as a story of overcoming, faith, faithfulness, and fruitfulness.
I want to be remembered as a blessed overcomer, as the one who has endured and whose light shone brightly in the darkness of multiple losses, disappointments, and challenges.
I want to leave a legacy of words: the words in all my books, poems, and articles. I hope my words will stand the test of time and will continue to bring comfort, hope, and encouragement to people after I am gone.
