We recently had the chance to connect with Taylor Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
After having my daughter in 2024, my daily rhythm changed completely! Before, I could work whenever inspiration struck, but now every day is carefully planned around her schedule (and childcare!) so I can keep life and work balanced.
Most mornings start with baby snuggles, breakfast, and playtime. When she goes down for her first nap, I treat it like a power hour. I get myself ready and then dive into whatever needs the most attention that day. Sometimes that’s house chores, but other times it’s editing as many photos as I can before she wakes up (it really feels like a race against the clock!).
During her second wake window, I love planning a little outing. Maybe a walk, a quick store run, or visiting family.
Just something to get us out of the house! When we come back, I usually start dinner while she naps again. Evenings are filled with her dinner, more play, and then bath and bedtime snuggles.
Once my husband gets home, he usually takes over baby playtime so I can sneak in some extra work. And after bedtime, I’ll either hop back on my laptop to edit or give myself some much-needed time to recharge before the next day begins. It’s a full, busy season of life, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Taylor! I’m a wedding and branding photographer based in Huntsville, Alabama (though I’m always happy to travel wherever love takes me!). I specialize in capturing authentic, intimate, and unscripted moments. The kind of photos that don’t just show what your day looked like, but what it felt like.
Something people always tell me is that I work with the absolute sweetest, most in-love couples. And honestly, I think that’s what makes my work stand out: I create a comfortable, fun experience where my couples can just be themselves. That’s when the real magic happens!! The genuine laughter, the happy tears, the little looks only they share. I’m not about stiff poses or cookie-cutter galleries; I want every couple’s photos to feel like them and their unique love story.
In addition to weddings, I’ve also branched into branding photography for local businesses and entrepreneurs. I love helping other dreamers and doers show off their personality and passion through photos that truly represent their brand.
Becoming a mom in 2024 has only deepened my perspective. It’s taught me to slow down, to notice the little things, and to appreciate the balance it takes to grow both a family and a business. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me chasing baby giggles or sipping an iced matcha.
At the end of the day, I pour my heart into every session because I want my clients to walk away with images that feel timeless, meaningful, and 100% them.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that shaped me the most was becoming a mom in August of 2024. Nothing could have prepared me for how much it would change the way I see absolutley everything! From my personal life to my business. Motherhood has taught me to slow down and notice the little things, the tiny milestones, the everyday joys, and the fleeting moments that pass so quickly.
That shift in perspective has spilled right into my photography. I’ve always believed in capturing authentic, unscripted moments, but now I feel that even deeper! I know firsthand how important it is to have photos that freeze time. Not just the big milestones, but also the quiet, in-between memories you’ll want to hold onto forever.
Motherhood has made me more intentional, more patient, and more passionate about documenting love stories in a way that feels real and lasting.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to give herself more grace and stop rushing progress. I’ve always been the type who wanted everything to come together instantly. Whether it was moving into a new space and wanting it picture-perfect right away, or pushing myself to grow my business overnight. But that’s just not how life works.
Even now, with motherhood and running a business, I’ve learned that meaningful growth takes time. It’s the small, everyday moments, that shape who we are and make the finished picture so rewarding.
And I’d definitely tell her to slow down, breathe, and celebrate the little joys along the way (like an iced matcha in the middle of a busy day)!!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think one of the biggest lies in the photography industry is that you have to be “busy” all the time to be successful. There’s this constant pressure to hustle nonstop. But I’ve learned that true success comes from being intentional, focusing on your clients, creating meaningful work, and also giving yourself the space to recharge. Busy doesn’t equal thriving.
Another thing I’ve noticed is how moms are sometimes underestimated in this industry. There’s this belief that once you have kids, you won’t have enough time or energy to pour into your clients or your work, that your career will somehow be derailed. But that’s simply not true! Since becoming a mom, I don’t have endless hours to pour into my business like I once did. But the time I do set aside for work is incredibly intentional, and I actually get more done now than I ever did before.
Motherhood has also changed the way I see my work. I now understand more than ever how precious these images are! They’re not just photos, they’re memories people will hold onto for a lifetime. That perspective has made me even more passionate about documenting love stories in a way that feels real and lasting.
So if there are any moms or moms-to-be out there wondering if you can do both, you absolutely can!!
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Absolutely! I’ve had so many moments in my career where I’ve felt that “tap dancing to work” kind of excitement. For me, it’s often on wedding mornings when I wake up knowing I get to spend the entire day celebrating love, capturing the sweetest details, and being surrounded by so much joy!! There’s truly nothing like the buzz of a wedding day, and even after years of doing this, I still get butterflies before every single one.
One of my most exciting work trips ever was when my now brother-in-law asked me to photograph him proposing to my sister in Utah. We spent weeks planning the perfect proposal, and then a couple of days before, he flew me out so we could travel there together with my mom. Taking in the beautiful scenery of the petrified sand dunes while also getting to see my sister’s reaction firsthand, when she thought we were supposed to be back in Huntsville working only to find her now husband waiting for her, was absolutely priceless. It’s a memory I’ll never forget and one of the biggest honors of my career!
And honestly, after having my daughter, I’ve felt this excitement in a whole new way. Now when I head into a wedding or session, I know how meaningful these images will be years down the road, and that gives me so much energy and joy. It’s such a privilege to be trusted with people’s memories, and that never gets old.
