We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jocelyn Leaf. Check out our conversation below.
Jocelyn, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, I really enjoy being involved in my church community. I recently started attending Heal House Community Church in Charlotte, NC, and it has truly brought me so much joy. Not only have I found a loving and supportive community there, but I also get to serve and give back, which has been incredibly fulfilling. My pastor is amazing and challenges me to grow spiritually every week. Being part of this church has given me a renewed sense of purpose, deeper relationships, and a place where I feel I truly belong.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Jocelyn Leaf, content creator, visual storyteller, and your creative partner for authentic, meaningful content. I’m originally from Florence, SC, but I’m now based in the Rock Hill and Charlotte areas, serving clients across the Carolinas.
I love telling other people’s stories through visuals that make them feel seen, celebrated, and supported. I felt God calling me to step into my creative side and use this gift to serve others, to help promote their purpose, capture their special moments, and reflect the beauty of who they are.
Today, I get to partner with families, professionals, and purpose-driven brands to create content that feels true—not just posed or perfect. Whether it’s a branding shoot, a family session, or even a wedding filled with sacred, joy-filled moments, I’m there to capture the heart behind it all.
My experience spans weddings, events, and business branding, but my mission stays the same: to serve with excellence, creativity, and heart
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I never really thought of myself as a creative when I was younger. Looking back, I realize I’ve always had an eye for photography, videography, and creative work online, even since high school, but I didn’t take it seriously because I often heard that creative careers “don’t make money.” So, I pushed those passions aside and only used my gifts here and there, never imagining I’d one day build a business around them, let alone pursue them full-time.
What I no longer believe is that creativity can’t be a calling or a career. I’ve learned that my creative gifts are valuable, needed, and worth pursuing — and now I get to use them to serve others and run a business I truly love.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, honestly, almost every day! Full-time entrepreneurship can be stressful and overwhelming at times, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. What keeps me going is my faith in God and the amazing community around me. They remind me why I started and encourage me to keep showing up, even on the hard days.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies I think the creative industry tells itself is that everything has to look “perfect” to be valuable — the perfect shot, the perfect aesthetic, the perfect moment. I believe real connection and authenticity matter so much more than perfection. People don’t just want polished photos or videos; they want to feel something when they look at them.
Another lie is that you have to hustle nonstop or burn yourself out to be successful. I’ve learned that working with purpose, setting boundaries, and protecting your creativity is what actually leads to longevity in this industry.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember that I loved God and that everything I did, I did for Him. Whether it was in my business, my relationships, or everyday life, I hope they see that I always led with love, faith, and loyalty.
