An Inspired Chat with Sharon Zimmerman

We recently had the chance to connect with Sharon Zimmerman and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharon, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been returning to my craft and artistic roots. Picking up a pencil for sketching again is so grounding, and the freedom to be creative without having to worry about how to develop a product around my creative output has been liberating.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m dubbed the Pricing Queen by clients and students!

A few years ago, after nearly 20 years in the jewelry industry, I decided that the amazing artists and craftspeople I know needed more support in their businesses. Jewelry is an industry with specific consumer psychology, quirky supply chains, and unique business models. I was uniquely situated to be able to provide support and insights to designers at all stages of their businesses. Switching to business advising was one of the best choices I ever made, and I love being able to watch my clients grow and expand!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Back in 2018, I was tapped to teach financial projections for a women’s’ business center after having gone through their program. I have strong communication skills, tons of small business experience and decent spreadsheet skills, so I said yes. Child and teenage me would have been shocked – I thought I was bad at math. But years of being in business for myself have taught me the joy and the storytelling side of numbers – they aren’t scary, they just have something to say. This process of learning to love numbers taught me that at anytime we can choose to think differently about ourselves and learn new ideas.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It* doesn’t have to happen on anyone else’s timeline.

*It being any part of your life.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Pretty close! If you watch my YouTube videos, those aren’t too far from how I talk in real life. There is plenty that I don’t share because, you know, boundaries. But my values, my opinions, my writing are all me.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
They would miss being able to get an honest and transparent read of their problem. They would miss being able to get a real world solution, one rooted in experience.
