Lakeshia Baker of Lawrenceville, GA on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Lakeshia Baker shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Lakeshia , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am most proud of building my family and children into great young men that can change the world one day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m LaKeisha Baker—a proud wife and mother of five amazing boys. I’m a licensed and ordained minister, a licensed cosmetologist, and a celebrity hair and makeup artist with years of experience helping people feel confident and beautiful. Most recently, I’ve stepped into a new chapter as the founder of Lilly’s Flavor Fusion Lemonade & Treats, where I get to blend my love for creativity, community, and flavor into something truly special.”

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was just a little girl with a big voice and even bigger dreams. I grew up singing—everyone said I was next in line for ministry, just like my father. But deep down, I also dreamed of being on stage, singing and acting, sharing stories that moved people. That creative spark was always there, even before I knew what to call it.”

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failing has followed me for a long time. But even deeper than that was a fear planted in me as a little girl—the belief that I would never be enough, that I’d be nothing. That kind of fear doesn’t just whisper, it tries to shape your whole story. But I’ve learned to fight back, to rewrite that narrative with faith, purpose, and resilience.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that family and faith are at the center of everything I do. My children mean the world to me, and I’m always looking for ways to spread joy—whether it’s through a kind word, a beautiful transformation in the salon, or a sweet treat from Lilly’s Flavor Fusion. I just love seeing people smile and feel seen.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I was loyal and kind, someone who brought light into every room. That I was charismatic and outgoing, always thoughtful and present. That I was a great mother, a great wife, and a great friend—someone who loved deeply, gave freely, and lived with purpose. I want my story to be one of faith, joy, and impact.
