Melissa Laughlin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Melissa, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My mornings start slow and simple—Bible open, prayer, coffee in hand, one dog curled up beside me, the other by my feet. Those first 90 minutes set the tone, grounding me in peace before the day gets busy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Melissa Laughlin, founder of The Blessed Home Project, a nonprofit in Pittsburgh that provides free professional house cleaning for families going through hard seasons like cancer, illness, or loss. What makes us unique is that we don’t just send volunteers—we send trained staff, because we believe excellence shows people they’re truly seen, cared for, and loved. Alongside that, my husband and I run Integrity Electrical, our family-owned business built on the value of doing the job right—every time.
Outside of work, I’m a wife and mom to two teenage daughters who we homeschool (and who keep life fun and full of laughter). I also had the privilege of co-authoring Refined for Revival, a book that speaks to my heart for faith and renewal. Everything I do—whether through business, ministry, or family life—comes back to creating spaces of hope, dignity, and connection. Right now, I’m focused on expanding The Blessed Home Project so even more families can experience peace and relief right where they need it most—at home.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
What relationship most shaped how you see yourself? For me, it’s my relationship with Jesus. The more I got into the Bible, the more I started to see that God made me with unique gifts, talents, and a real purpose. For a long time, I saw myself as shy, unequipped, unqualified—not enough. But God’s shown me that’s not who I am. Because I have Jesus, I already have everything I need to live victorious and to walk out the purpose He’s given me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, yes—probably more than once. There were times when quitting felt like it would be the easier option. But I could never truly give up, because I promised God I wouldn’t, no matter how difficult or challenging things got. People don’t always see what goes on behind the scenes when you’re building something—especially when you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing. But God knows, and that’s what keeps me moving forward.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
For me, it’s that The Blessed Home Project will be nationwide. I believe families everywhere deserve to experience the hope and relief that comes when someone shows up to care for their home in the middle of a hard season. No matter how long it takes, I’m committed to seeing this vision spread across the country.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I’m doing what I was born to do. For a long time, I let fear and doubt shape how I saw myself, but as I learned more of God’s Word, I realized He created me with a unique purpose. I wasn’t called to simply follow what others expected—I was created to bring hope, serve people in their hardest seasons, and build something that points back to Him. Living that out through The Blessed Home Project, our family business, and even writing has confirmed that this is exactly what I was born to do.
