Penny Davidi Borsuk shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Penny, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Who are you learning from right now?
On June 27 of this year, I lost my 25-year-old daughter to a brutal battle against Brain cancer. So who I’m learning from right now is her Sophia took this battle head on. She smiled through every session of Radiation and chemo. She pushed forward and lived the past two years of her life in the fullest she didn’t let this cancer stop her from traveling and enjoying every moment she knew life was precious and time was limited so she made sure she lived it and was present and now I as a vow to her will do the same be present being the moment don’t put off what I can do today till later
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Penny Davidi Borsuk. I am a celebrity chef consultant and an entrepreneur currently I work as a new business manager for US FOODS. I’ve been in the culinary industry for over 20 years and have built a culinary community never having gone to culinary school, but sharing family old recipes with innovative twists. Currently, I have started a jewelry line to honor my daughter’s memory who passed from brain cancer June 2025. The line is called 1111. A portion of the proceeds go to helping other families who have children struggling with glioblastoma. I have made it my mission to help find a cure.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people, especially in the age of social media is dishonesty, disrespect, gaslighting, and manipulation. And the fact that all is done through text messaging people are no longer bonding through conversations in person or even on the phone bonds were much stronger when you had to see a person to convey a message look into their eyes. Tell them you want to break up or even picking up the phone to share something Now with a simple text message. You could get rid of the person and block them. How can any of this be restored? I think humanity has moved to a different level and those who were the letter writers the phone callers the in person message givers are dying breed so unless that’s passed down From parents to their children that bond is lost.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wound of my life was watching my 25-year-old daughter lose her life in front of me as a parent watching your child. Take their first breath and their last is life-changing now I’m working on healing those wounds do you ever really heal from losing a child? I’m not sure I think you learned to just live with the pain.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
With me it’s always been what you see is what you get. I’ve never been one to be shy or silent in my community around my friends at work in public. I’m definitely outspoken and vocal about my feelings and how I really think about things so yes, I am the real me
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I’ve always been one to give everything my all everything my best never for praise never to please anyone but myself of course I am my own biggest critic so for me it’s been always about giving whatever it is I’m doing my all regardless of who standing there cheering me on I am my biggest critic and also my biggest cheerleader. I’m here to leave a legacy. I don’t care who it pleases.
