We were lucky to catch up with Maurice Carroll recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maurice, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Finding my purpose wasn’t the hard part, it showed up naturally. The real challenge was understanding it. I looked at what I was naturally gifted in and the talents I worked to develop. Once I lined those up, it clicked. I know I’m a strong teacher. If I have knowledge and experience in something, I can break it down and teach it effectively. My skills in music and mindfulness are both valuable and needed. That’s my purpose teaching people/helping people with and through music and teaching mindfulness for beginners.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I wear a few hats, but they all connect through one thing, healing and creativity. I’m a sound healer, Reiki master, music producer, and mindfulness teacher. What excites me most is blending those worlds: using sound and mindfulness not just as art, but as tools to help people reset, recharge, and reconnect with themselves.
Music has been my first language and now I use it alongside energy work and mindfulness to create experiences that shift people mentally, emotionally, and even physically. Whether it’s through a deep house track, a sound bath, or teaching someone how to use their own voice as a healing instrument, I get to watch people unlock parts of themselves they didn’t know were there. That’s special to me.
On the brand side, I run Harmony in Mind Wellness Group, where we focus on sound healing, Reiki, and mindfulness coaching. I also co-lead Musical Expressions With Friends, a program that blends music and emotional expression for neurodivergent teens, giving them and their caregivers tools for creativity and support. I also record vocalists and produce music.
As for what’s new: I will be launching a podcast called Mindful AF Everyday (where AF means “authentic and faithful”), aimed at making mindfulness approachable, real, and even funny at times. I’m also developing a new sound healing device that merges advanced speaker technology with therapeutic frequencies—so healing isn’t just felt in the mind, but literally heard and experienced in the body but don’t tell anybody. That’s just between us! lol
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three things that carried me the furthest were creativity, resilience, and the ability to connect with people.
Creativity kept me from getting stuck. Whether I was producing or teaching music, playing or directing music, teaching or experiencing mindfulness, or building a wellness program, being willing to experiment and remix ideas made the journey exciting and sustainable. My advice: don’t wait until something is “perfect” because as you grow, you will always learn ways to improve it. Keep practicing and put it out, refine it as you go, and let real feedback shape you. Focus on the process, not the destination.
Resilience is what allowed me to keep going when money was tight, doors closed, or people didn’t get the vision yet. For anyone just starting, understand that there are no failures. You just get speed bumps. Learn from them quickly and keep moving.
Connection, both to people and to purpose, turned opportunities into real growth. I’ve learned more from building relationships than I ever could’ve learned alone. My advice: don’t just network, actually connect. Practice active listening and ask open ended questions. Be clear on why you’re doing what you do, because purpose is what carries you when motivation fades.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely and often! I believe collaboration is where the magic happens. I’m especially looking to connect with:
Educators and youth programs who see the value of bringing mindfulness and music into schools or after-school spaces, especially for neurodivergent teens.
Health and wellness professionals (therapists, holistic practitioners, even doctors with an open mind) who want to integrate sound healing and mindfulness into their work.
Artists and creatives who are interested in recording music and/or music business, storytellers, poets, visual artists who are looking for musical direction and so on.
I’m also open to partnerships with organizations that want to create community-based programs that give people practical tools for emotional wellness.
