We were lucky to catch up with Wellie Jackson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Wellie, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from the fact I love what I do and I also know that a 9-5 isn’t for me I’ve been fired from every job I’ve had except comedy. My last job they knew I wanted to do comedy so my boss told me I should pursue it because I was that bad at my job. And looking back it was the best decision I’ve made I’ve toured the country performed at Madison square garden, Carnegie Hall, Chicago’s civic opera house just to name a few. I’ve been on multiple hit tv shows, I’m starring in a new movie. I’m a writer for legendary comedians. THANKS BOSS

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m A Comedian / Actor / Writer it’s special to me because. This is what I was put on earth to do God has made that clear. At some point everyone thinks about getting into. I’m most excited about my new movie coming out which will premiere in October called “DAMN KNICKS” this is my first time starring in a movie which is a lot different from just having a role. I’m excited for people to see what we created. I also hyped to be headlining the New York Comedy Festival for the 2nd year in a row tickets for all my shows are on my website welliejackson.com

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One of the most important qualities you need to have in this business is resiliency because just like life you’ll be tested, you’ll be handed lemons and quitting won’t be an option. You also need to believe in yourself and I mean believe in yourself to the point where you think you could fly or walk on water or something sounds crazy right? Yeah that’s the level of belief you need to have because you’re going to have to be funny on days where ain’t nothing to laugh at you’re going to have to act on days where life can’t get any worse for you but the show must go on

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents taught me at a young age that I can do anything I put my mind to and they never stopped to tell me other wise. My dad used to walk me to school everyday and told me I’m a king and I can be anything I want to be literally everyday for years. So I had no choice but to believe him I mean he would say it when it was 3 degrees outside ain’t nobody trying to talking in that type of weather walk fast so we can get to the school
