Meet Tyler Herwig

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyler Herwig. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tyler, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from my life experiences and my journey through music and recovery.

There was a time in my life when I felt completely lost — battling addiction, doubt, and the belief that my dreams were too far out of reach. But through grace, hard work, and the support of my family, I rebuilt my life and found purpose again. That experience taught me that no matter how dark things seem, there’s always a way forward if you refuse to give up.

Now, every time I step on stage or share a song, I’m reminded of the people who believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. That keeps me hopeful — because if music helped heal me, I know it can bring hope to others, too. My optimism isn’t just wishful thinking; it’s built on seeing real change happen, in my life and in the lives of my fans.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m an independent pop-country singer-songwriter whose music blends heartfelt storytelling with modern country-pop energy. I like to describe my style as “a blend of Ed Sheeran’s heartfelt storytelling and Dan + Shay’s modern country charm.” My mission goes far beyond just making music — I want to change hearts, minds, and lives one song at a time.

My journey hasn’t been an easy one. I’m over five years sober, and my path to recovery deeply influences the songs I write. My single “Enough” came straight out of that experience and has become an anthem for people battling addiction, mental health struggles, or loneliness. I’ve even had fans tell me my music helped them get sober, which is the most humbling thing I could ever hear. Those moments remind me why I do this — not just to entertain, but to bring hope and healing through music.

Family is at the heart of everything I do. My wife, Maegan, and our two kids travel with me whenever possible, and they inspire so many of my songs. My single “18 Summers” is a tribute to the fleeting time we have with our kids before they grow up, and it’s been incredible to see how deeply that song resonates with parents all over the world.

This past year was one of the biggest of my career. I performed over 280 shows nationwide and made my international debut in the UK, playing shows in London, York, and Chelmsford. One of the highlights of the tour was opening for incredible artists like Dillon Carmichael, Craig Campbell, Kezia Gill, Alli Walker, and Rissi Palmer at the Country Calling Music Festival. Getting to share my music with new audiences overseas — and to bring my wife and kids along for the journey — was a dream come true. Seeing my daughter join me on stage and sing in front of thousands was a moment I’ll never forget.

On the release side, my single “First To Be Last” recently hit radio and has been generating a lot of excitement. It’s a deeply romantic song about being grateful to be someone’s last love, even if you weren’t their first. I also have another release coming soon, “Slow Ride,” which captures the simple joy of taking a long drive with someone you love, with images of tailgates, bonfires, and savoring the little moments in life.

What makes my work special is how personal and real it is. Whether I’m writing about recovery, family, or relationships, my goal is always to create a space where people feel seen, understood, and hopeful. When someone listens to my music, I want them to feel like they’re part of an extended family — because that’s how I see my fans.

Looking ahead, my focus is on continuing to grow my live shows, connecting with fans worldwide, and finding more ways to use my platform to make a difference. I want my kids to see that dreams really are possible if you work hard and never give up — which is a message I carry with me on every stage I step onto.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three qualities that have impacted my journey the most are resilience, storytelling, and authentic connection. Resilience kept me moving forward through setbacks — from overcoming addiction to pushing through the countless “no’s” I heard early in my career. Storytelling has been at the heart of my music; songs like “Enough” and “18 Summers” resonate because they come from a real, vulnerable place in my life. And building authentic relationships with fans has turned my audience into a family — people who believe in this mission as much as I do.

For anyone starting their journey, focus on these three areas. See challenges as lessons rather than failures, be brutally honest in your art, and remember there are real people behind every like, follow, or ticket sale. If you stay true to your “why” and lead with heart, you’ll not only grow your career, but you’ll also change lives along the way — and that’s the greatest success there is.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

One of the books that’s had the biggest impact on my life is “Principle of the Path” by Andy Stanley. There’s a line in it that completely shifted the way I approach both my career and personal life:

“Direction, not intention, determines destination.”

That hit me hard because, like many people, I used to believe that simply having good intentions would get me to where I wanted to go. But the truth is, no matter how pure your intentions are, if you’re not walking in the right direction, you’ll never end up at your desired destination.

This wisdom has shaped how I navigate everything — from songwriting to recovery to building my career. It taught me that daily choices matter. Every small step either moves you closer to your dreams or further away. That mindset helped me stay focused on the long game, make intentional decisions, and ultimately build a life and career that align with my values and mission of bringing hope and healing through music.
