Meet Geneva McCloud, Mph

We recently connected with Geneva McCloud, Mph and have shared our conversation below.

Geneva, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

In the late 1960s, my father Robert McCloud affectionately known as Rev. relocated our family from Alabama to Detroit in search of greater opportunity and stability. My father encouraged family and friends from the south to come to Detroit and establish a life they could be proud of. As Detroit evolved as a major industrial center, it was recognized as the “Motor City.”
Henry Ford, General Motors and Chrysler were the leading employers in the automotive industry. My father successfully secured a position with one of the Big Three and after 25 years of dedicated service my father retired from Chrysler as an assembly line employee.

I witnessed firsthand the sacrifices he made, to ensure we had a good quality of life, often working multiple shifts, including both daytime and afternoon shifts. Our family’s livelihood depended upon my father adapting to the evolving demands of work and family. I’m sure working in the plant (factory) could become challenging at times but my father remained encouraged during any setbacks or challenges through resilience, determination, and dedication. My father explained to each of his children the importance of character and to lead with good morals and values.

I can remember, one afternoon, my father shared with me that he had once dreamed of opening his own restaurant, driven by his passion for cooking. Unfortunately, life’s responsibilities never allowed him the opportunity to pursue his dream as a restaurant owner. Although my father never opened a restaurant, his southern-style sweet potato pies were a well sought-after dessert for hundreds of Detroiter’s.

That conversation profoundly inspired me—to pursue a path of wellness. Today, I proudly stand as the fearless owner of two businesses: Favorable Well-Being, LLC and GiGi’s Garden of Botanical Herbs, LLC—built with a legacy rooted in purpose, resilience, and passion.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Over the past decade, I have devoted myself to studying the pathophysiology of hypertension and have successfully learned to manage and control my own blood pressure. My passion for health and wellness was deeply shaped by my experience as a caregiver for both of my parents, who suffered from strokes and hypertension. These personal experiences have strengthened my commitment to serving as a trusted resource for individuals in my community who are living with hypertension. In my role as a certified nutrition coach, I have helped hundreds of men, women, and children improve their quality of life through two foundational principles: healthy eating habits and regular physical activity.

I am honored to partner with The Detroit People’s Food Co-Op and The Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance to lead a community health initiative focused on enhancing access to behavioral health services, fostering social connectedness, and promoting physical wellness—specifically addressing hypertension among older adults in the Cody Rouge community.
Through this workshop, our goal is to increase the proportion of adults aged 50 and older who are naturally maintaining healthy blood pressure levels. We aim to inspire participants to adopt a new mindset—one that empowers lifelong change. The participants will engage in evidence-based, practical strategies to reduce high blood pressure and lower the risk of cognitive decline.

With a dedicated team of wellness professionals, we are fully equipped to guide older adults in developing sustainable health habits that will support them throughout the aging process. As life expectancy continues to rise, it is more important than ever to ensure that seniors are educated and have access to the tools and resources necessary to live long, vibrant, and healthy lives.
At Favorable Well-Being, we firmly believe that our participants will leave the workshop not only better equipped to care for themselves but also empowered to share the knowledge gained with their families and communities—becoming advocates for health and wellness in their own right.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

As I advanced in my entrepreneurial journey, I developed and refined three essential skills: effective communication, niche problem-solving, and time management—all of which have been instrumental in scaling my business. These skills have not only enhanced my professional relationships but have also enabled me to guide others toward living healthier, more fulfilling lives. Throughout my coaching career, I have earned the trust and respect of the community I serve, by being open and honest.

It took time, dedication, and self-discovery to fully develop and understand my niche. Niche problem-solving involves clearly identifying the community you are serving and recognizing the significance of addressing their specific needs in the marketplace. A deep understanding of my niche enabled me to develop tailored strategies that will influence and transform the mindset of my target audience.

Establishing a niche positioned me as a subject matter expert in Hypertension Management. Over the years, I have learned to leverage my skills to implement impactful solutions that will influence behavior change among the older adult in controlling and reducing high blood pressure.

Each day presents new challenges and requires a high degree of adaptability. As such, effective time management becomes essential. By establishing clear priorities and aligning daily responsibilities with long-term objectives, I have significantly reduced procrastination and maintain consistent focus on the tasks that drive meaningful progress.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

As I work to bridge the gap between high blood pressure management and the specific needs of adults aged 50 and older, I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with block clubs, associations and Grass roots organizations. In addition to healthcare professionals, fitness experts, business leaders, and advocates of alternative health approaches. With the on going cost of medical expenditures, it remains paramount to integrate practices that will focus on ways to deliver care and promote wellness.

Together, we can unite around a shared commitment to empowering individuals over 50 to manage and control high blood pressure through informed, holistic, and sustainable methods. If you are passionate about helping others improve their cardiovascular health and would like to partner with us in our health initiative, “My Blood Pressure Matters,” please contact us at [email protected].
