Story & Lesson Highlights with George “G Smoove” McDonald of Columbus, GA

We’re looking forward to introducing you to George “G Smoove” McDonald. Check out our conversation below.

George “G Smoove”, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
A recent proud moment that I’ve experienced was being awarded the Georgia Broadcasting and music Legend Award back in May! It was a shock and seemed like it came out of nowhere but it reminded me that I have been working hard and that others see and recognize my efforts.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is George “G Smoove” McDonald and I am a radio personality/singer/songwriter/filmmaker. I know that seems like a lot but I think I’ve mastered blending disciplines. I am currently the night personality on K 92.7 FM in Columbus, GA My show is called “The G Smoove Experience” and is on from 7pm-Midnight Sun-Fri I am also a singer/ Songwriter and have written for artists like Angie Stone, Ruben Studdard, Dave Hollister and others. I recently released my own single under the Name KING IV called “Found My Tomorrow” I also have a movie out that I co wrote called “Entanglement” which stars Cisco Reyes, Jasmine Burke, Omar Gooding, and the late Angie Stone among others. I am also in a new movie coming soon called “The Life of Me” written and directed by Ty Manns. I also served as a soundtrack supervisor on that movie so I have been quite busy! LOL

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe that i was like everyone else and that there was something wrong with me because I didn’t fit in. As I got older and more comfortable in my own skin I realized that I was never meant to fit in I have BIG ENERGY with a BIG PERSONALITY! When i was younger I tried to dim that energy when I entered into certain spaces because I wanted people to feel comfortable around me. I now realize that I was meant to disrupt spaces and bring life and light into them.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me how strong I am and could be. It showed me that there is life after tragedy and that you are not jus surviving but thriving in spite of difficulties and that is how we are supposed to live our lives, in spit of everything that happens

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
A fundamental truth in my life is this, “To thyne own self be true.” There will come a lot of things that shake your beliefs and shift your perspective That is called growth and all of us should grow but remain who you are at the core The true essence of yourself is important because you can get caught up in the world and lose yourself in things that don’t last.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone i want more than anything else for people to tell other that I was a good person who truly cared about other people and that they know that God is real because they encountered me and saw him in me,
