We recently had the chance to connect with amy schromm and have shared our conversation below.
amy, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I would say energy is the most important of the three. All three are highly important, but when you truly understand energy—our greatest internal resource—and how to use it for good:
You automatically act out of integrity.
You can focus more on higher learnings instead of low-vibrational energy, and therefore your intelligence elevates.
How’s that for a deep thought, ha. I’m big on understanding and harnessing our individual energy for the collective good.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Amy Schromm—a commercial photographer and director specializing in elevating brands through stills and impactful storytelling. My career began in the agency world, where I gained a deep understanding of brand strategy and internal structures. Over time, I discovered my strength lies in learning the heart of a brand—the ethos, the story, the people behind it—and translating that into visuals that connect with audiences in a powerful, authentic way.
While I have a strong technical background in photography and production, my true passion is creating work that makes people pause, think, and feel something lasting. For me, it’s about more than just making beautiful images—it’s about capturing a brand’s story in a way that resonates and creates meaningful impact.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Great question. I think the part of me that has served its purpose is the version of myself that focused on simply mastering the craft—learning how to make beautiful content and creating work that pleased the masses. That chapter taught me discipline and skill, but now I’m ready to release it and lean fully into my authentic point of view.
As AI continues to evolve, I see it as a powerful tool for volume and efficiency, especially when it comes to content made for quantity. For me, that shift is freeing. It allows me to put more focus on what truly matters: creating from my personal voice, building a brand rooted in authenticity, and delivering stories that resonate in a deeper.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Well, this is the most “inside Amy’s brain” interview I’ve ever done.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wrestled with the fear of being misunderstood. I’m a deep and trailblazing thinker, but I often felt like my words didn’t carry weight—that my ideas were overlooked, and that my voice wasn’t meant to be heard.
I believe the most powerful brands are built on authentic stories. Now I am using my voice to create stories for brands I believe in and to speak more authentically through my visuals and storytelling. My work goes beyond photography and video—it’s about helping brands communicate their values, connect with audiences, and create meaningful impact. What once felt like a challenge—finding the confidence to use my voice—now my focus is getting behind a brand’s ethos and making it resonate through my visuals and storytelling.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I’d say they’d point to valuing my time and boundaries, craving freedom, and leading with compassion. To me, that looks like respecting my own energy the way I respect others, creating space where freedom brings out authenticity, and showing kindness in how I connect, collaborate, and contribute to the world around me.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think most people don’t know my story, the challenges I’ve overcome to be here. People may see the beautiful photos and videos, but not the path of a creative, the guts, courage, and resilience it takes to keep going despite the “no’s,” the lack of guidance, and the choice to stand against the big guys. I grew up in a childhood that didn’t set me up for success, yet it gave me the drive to create my own path. I’ve broken molds as a woman in this industry, as someone who left the corporate agency world to forge my own path, and as a creative whose early experiences gave me the resilience to build a career on my own terms and the perspective to earn a diversity filmmaking award for my voice and vision.
I take more risks than most because I’ve had to build myself from scratch, again and again. Resilience is my middle name. As I look ahead to the next decade, it’s humbling. I don’t have time to waste time. I want to create authentic stories, stories that leave an impact, even if they ruffle feathers, and elevate brands that resonate.
