Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Loretta Mitchell of U.K.

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Loretta Mitchell. Check out our conversation below.

Loretta, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I don’t chase anything. Everything is energy and vibration. When you chase, you send a vibrational message to the universe that you are in lack and that’s what you manifest more of. If you stop chasing and start aligning with the right energy (gratitude) you will attract not what you want, but who you are, which will subsequently bring into your reality what you want. It’s like breaking up with someone for example. The more you chase the person the more they run. It’s important to be grateful for all we have first to attract more in life or better.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Loretta, aka Yellow Drum. I am a Dancehall Reggae Music Producer. Music has always been my passion and I love music from all genres. If its sounds good that’s all that matters to me. Even if I cannot understand the language. It’s all in the vibration. Growing up as a child, despite being half English (mum) and half Trinidadian (dad), the community that we lived amongst in the UK and my dads friends were predominantly Jamaican and that is where my love for dancehall reggae stemmed from. After hearing the music often at their friends houses and events, it simply became ingrained in my soul. Being exposed to the music from such an early age I have a huge recollection of the music, from the sounds of Studio One up until today. I started the Yellow Drum Studio back in 2019 as a music promoter, powered by my partner in crime, lol. Natalie Notnice, who is a longtime music promoter supporting rising stars within the industry. Throughout the years of collaborating with Natalie, Co-hosting the Sen Artist Ah Road Radio Show with Natalie and Selector UK Rondon, networking with the artists and other industry professionals, I decided to take a leap from music promoting to music production. Long story short, after a couple of successful productions, I, without a doubt, had found my place within the world of music, which was my life long goal and I never looked back. I have since put together a catalogue of masterpieces up to this day and the journey continues. I’ve just released Cancun by an artist called Mxrda and our latest release, due out on the 3rd of October 2025 is called the “Blood Shot Riddim” which is a carefully constructed work of art that we are all collectively proud of, so look out for that. That will also be followed by Love Gifted by Dimastah, which will drop on the 27th October.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I am grateful for the path I have walked so far as life is a journey full of ups and downs and twists and turns. We don’t always make the right choices when it comes to direction, but being grateful for every direction is a must because it’s all part of the growth process. By doing things wrong sometimes we get the opportunity to make them right, so I would say that it’s those parts of my life (which are plenty) are the ones that have served their purpose, helped mould me into who I have become today, but have now been released to make way for who I have become and who I am becoming. The thing is its a never ending journey. You are never too old to make mistakes, learn, release and grow.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Most wouldn’t believe me but I, like many, had doubts and fears. For me personally, I would always second guess and doubt my abilities and whether people liked me. I was also not a very confident person when it came to putting myself out there publicly. This is something that I knew deep down, but I guess you like most people, I swept it under the carpet and just carried on with life. My spiritual journey began in church for which I am eternally grateful, but when I realised I didn’t need external sources and that I had the power within me to be who I wanted to be, it was a game changer. I knew I wanted more and I always knew I was destined for more than what I was doing but those limiting beliefs I was placing on myself were putting a halt to what could potentially be so I confronted myself and decided I was going to do me by not only caring about others but also caring about myself too and living authentically without the need of validation. I decided I was going to speak, I was going to show my face, I was going to post and show the real me and that I wasn’t going to care what anyone thought either. From that day forth, everything in my life has changed. It’s like the energy of self love and authenticity sent a message of gratitude to the universe and it completely changed my entire existence.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
There’s not much to say on this to be honest. The answer is most definitely. I went through many years living in my shadow due to shyness, lack of confidence in myself and in my abilities. I knew I could do it, if only I just believed in me. When I flipped that script and decided I was no longer gonna let these negative thoughts hinder me, everything changed. Everything I put out there publicly is the real me and I honestly don’t care who likes it and who doesn’t and that’s not meant in a bad way. I am just now very confident in who I am as a person, how I look, in my abilities and whatever I produce. The right people will always gravitate towards you positively and those who don’t are simply not your people and that’s OK. Everyone has free will.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think my supportive, nurturing and healing manner would be missed most. In regard to my artists, I listen to them. They are people with problems too, not just artists. I have a genuine love for humanity and I wish to see everyone be great and that is why I continue to strive to do what I do. I am a woman on a divine assignment, sent to assist those who cannot reach their goals entirely by themselves, for various different reasons. “Team Work Makes the Dream Work” is a true thing and we all need to unify a little more so that everyone can get a slice of the pie. Again, everything is energy. You will attract who you are so be the change you wish to see.
