An Inspired Chat with Adina Doss

Adina Doss shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Adina, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
A little of both! HA! Aren’t we all? No one truly has it figured out, totally. At least in my observation. I am capable of saying that just when I think I have something figured out, cruising along whistling while I walk, a turn happens. The key for me is to enjoy all the aspects of it. The known and the unknown, stopping to smell the flowers along the way, find the peace in the challenge and allow each moment to teach me something. Wondering creates wonder. Enjoy the journey!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Adina Doss and I am an Inner & Outer beauty specialist. I have worked behind the chair as a hairstylist for 28yrs, I have been providing integrated services behind the chair for 10yrs which include, customized energy treatments. Chakra balancing, crystal readings, guided meditation, orical card readings and more. I am also a Global educator for Redken, for 25 yrs. Here I get to touch the lives of many and help them mastery their craft and their life. ( big statements I know but that what they say, wink)

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I was 15/16 yrs old. I went to a garage sale across the street from my house and came across a bunch of books that I thought looked cool. I didn’t really read much then but something drew to to them, maybe it was the rainbow wheel on the front of Luise Hay- You can heal your life. the dark mysticism of the book Conscious mind to Love and Relationship, or the mere fact that this one was titled You Are Psychic, definitely caught my attention. The owner told be to take them all, so I did, I spent the next few years reading and studying all the magic these authors shared as it relates to viewing life and it just made sense to me. It was the first thing I had heard that really resonated. Like all of my questions about life were laid out. Obviously still being laid out but it was that moment I started to see the world with different eyes, ears and experience.
it was from that moment that I walked the world with and understanding and confidence that not most understood. It didn’t stem from ego, it came from trust!!!

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Hot Yoga! LOL I’m not kidding. The hardest mind game I have ever experienced in a 60 min window.
A friend invited me and I willingly accepted the assignment. I was excited to try this thing everyone is raving about.
A lot happened leading up, work meeting let out a little late, we needed to go back to our hotel and change and then somehow get across town in NYC in 20 min. RIGHT!? You catching what I’m throwing down here… a cab will take longer and if we walk/run it’s going to take us 25 min and we will be late. Sweating already! We jogged steadily the whole way. Made it right on time.
We walk into the room, remember this is my first time. I hit the wall of heat and gasped. Ok wasn’t really ready for that but here we go. The heat keeps getting hotter the moves are moving but there is no relief anywhere in sight. After about 25min of being tolerant I started to quit in my head before and after every postion. Then my don’t quite mind would kick in and say just one more move, Then the next move I start to rationalize thatI’m the one who paid for this class so it really is up to me if I did decide to leave. Then the next move and the next, looking around me watching each person around me making it look like it’s all in my head and the look so relaxed and comfortable.. so I force myself to keep going…Then it happens, I’m so excited when the instructor announces the next moves are floor moves and we will start in shavasana, YeS, a moment of reprieve. NOPE! Just as hot down there. At one point I was trying to figure out if that was a tear or sweat dripping from my eyes. It was challenging physically, mentally and emotionally and then it was over. Just like that 75min and I could leave the room without guilt or feeling like I quite on myself completely. It taught me so much about trying hard things and learning something new and all of the self doubt and fighting the uncomfortable happens.
I have done this in so many areas of my life and it’s what we teach, but this gave me the opportunity to relearn so that I can always come from a place of fresh perspective and authenticity.
Ask me, if I’ve done hot yoga since!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My life and what it is I am here to offer in service as a personal coach and guide to all I get the opportunity to touch on a deeper level. I truly believe I am here on a divine mission to do things beyond just myself. I am here to translate the words and practice to empower an individual to live fully in their truth and help them any way I can to deliver that truth. A spiritual missionary so to speak. I study every day so that I have the word and wisdom to help someone along my journey.
It’s not a hierarchy it’s a soul mission and purpose. I live gently in this truth and only share when someone is open and willing to receive.
At this point I will take it on as a life long journey. Honored and grateful to be in service

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I am one of those for sure! My whole career. I have always loved what I do and if there ever is a lul in my energy as it relates to whichever task I am doing at the time, behind the chair working with clients, on the road teaching and sharing for Redken, providing service as a wellness coach or facilitator. I will shift something in what it is I am doing to bring the energy back up. All of the work I do is so satisfying!! I get instant gratification in all of it too. To see the beautiful color, cut or style I created all while the deep and meaningful conversations that are had during the service so they walk away feeling and looking Amazing!! When I am working with salons/stylists to empower them in their craft. Or when I am working with an individual client or group to help them live their best life.
I am ridiculously excited about every day!!
