Corey Sampson of Mississippi Gulf Coast/Pinebelt Area on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Corey Sampson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Corey, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
One of the proudest moments happened recently when I became the father of a college graduate. My daughter earned her Bachelors degree in Studio Production from Full Sail University and I couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Corey Sampson, founder of Bluehouse Records, an independent recording studio and label based in Gulfport, Mississippi. What started as a passion for music quickly grew into a full creative hub for artists, offering recording, mixing, mastering, podcasting, production, and artist development services.

At Bluehouse Records, we pride ourselves on being more than just a studio—we’re a community for indie artists, podcasters, and creatives who want to bring their vision to life. With a professional yet approachable environment, our mission is to give talent from the Gulf Coast and beyond the resources, strategy, and sound quality they need to compete on any stage.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
From an early age, I was drawn to creativity and entrepreneurship—whether it was exploring new sounds, writing, or finding ways to bring people together through art. Those early influences inspired me to build something that went beyond a traditional studio. That vision became Bluehouse Records: a space where independent artists, podcasters, and creators can record, develop, and grow with professional quality and community support. Today, my mission is to take that same passion I discovered in my youth and pour it into helping others realize their creative potential, whether they’re just starting out or aiming for the next level.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
It’s funny you would ask that question, there has been numerous times I have felt like giving up and leaving the industry. I remember coming up as a recording artist I went through phases of burning my lyric folders. I told one of my buddies this story and the look on his face spoke volumes. Sometimes you lose passion in this industry and I always said once it was no longer fun then I was done. Thankfully the Lord chose otherwise and I discovered new ways to reinvent myself and explore new avenues in this industry to bring that spark back.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie the industry leads us to believe is that there is a cut of age for perfecting and pursuing your craft. I deal in all genres of music but main focus is Hip-Hop and there is a huge disconnect between generations and a lack of respect older and younger artist have for each. Your never to old or to young to learn from each other and give respect for artist and individuals who work to keep the culture growing. I have been very fortunate to be able to continue to do music and still be relevant and respected by both young and old artist.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
To state it simply absolutely. I don’t give my best for recognition or praise or money, I give my best because it makes me feel alive. Everything I put my stamp on I stand on. My clients, colleagues, friends, family, or whoever I deal with are going to get my very best every time. I’m my own worse critic and I pay attention to details so I’m going to go above and beyond to perform high quality work. I don’t need the praise, I find value of knowing I did my part to the best of my ability and nobody can take that pride from me.
