We recently had the chance to connect with Ana Kim and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For me, energy is the most important. I see it as the starting point for creating or achieving anything. With energy, I’m able to stay motivated, take initiative, and put in my best effort—ultimately leading to better results in both life and career.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an artist who paints animals—mostly endangered species—and nature, with a focus on protecting wildlife and preserving the environment we all share. I create flat artworks on canvas using paint and mixed media, primarily acrylics. In recent years, stretching the canvas has become one of the most important steps in my process, as I often work with fabrics of varying thicknesses and colors that become integral elements of the finished piece. Over time, I have developed multiple series centered on animals, with a particular focus on tigers, which also reflect my identity as an Asian. My current palette features vivid yet cozy colors, combined with smoother textures, to portray these creatures with a sense of warmth and illustrative essence.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My husband has most shaped how I see myself. Since the beginning, he has encouraged and supported me to pursue my career as a full-time artist. He has always reminded me to follow my heart and keep doing what I truly love. Beyond his emotional support, he also gives me thoughtful feedback and often joins me on journeys that bring inspiration and new ideas for my work
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there have been many times I felt like giving up. In a job that requires constant creativity and finding new opportunities, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are moments when I struggle to start a project or open a new show because of the many practical challenges involved. I love creating art, but the realities of managing the business side—promotion, deadlines, and other responsibilities—can be tough, and I sometimes feel behind. Still, I keep going because my passion for painting drives me to push through those moments.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire people who keep themselves visually updated every day, especially on social media. These days, promoting yourself as a brand is one of the most important ways to grow and show your abilities, and no one really sees your progress until you put it out there. By constantly sharing and updating, they show that they are creating something every day and have something meaningful to say about their growth. I really value consistency, and I believe it’s the key to success.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I deeply understand the importance of protecting animals, especially endangered species, and preserving natural habitats. This isn’t just about wildlife—it’s closely connected to human life and the health of our planet. While many people recognize the need to protect the environment, few take meaningful action, and the perspective of the animals’ lives is often overlooked. It’s crucial to remember that the ecosystem is interconnected, and we all share this Earth, so we have a responsibility to protect it for everyone.
