Teliah Tee of Melbourne, Australia on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Teliah Tee shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Teliah, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
Life has definitely transitioned since welcoming our newborn into the world, everything else has taken a back seat as we prioritize our little burrito. Even though music & creating isn’t at the forefront, it still has its place in the background temporarily.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Teliah, and I’ve been behind In Your City Music (IYCM) since 2019. IYCM was birthed from a deep soul love of music and supporting fellow creatives. This idea was planted in my heart while I lived abroad in Nashville, TN and sprouted once I came back home to Melbourne, Australia and settled into the rhythm here.

IYCM has seen numerous changes, and it always will as I look for ways to improve the exposure of artists and music producers. While I’m on a temporary extended hiatus, the ideas are flowing and more will be launched to support creatives and continue our mission of unity in the music community.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I think the part of me that felt like I needed to be in the mix, in the grind & in the know 24/7. I realised I can efficiently support creatives worldwide at my own pace instead of running the rat race, that mentality has helped the spark stay alight in me. It’s all about balance, and I think most recently it has been evident that I need to release the need to be present in that area and just focus on my little family bubble that has been created. My purpose has definitely been served as I’ve had the pleasure to review & interview over hundreds of artists since 2019, now it’s time to switch gears once again.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are capable. Stay focused.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Nipsey Hussel.
Without a doubt.
In times where I’ve nearly given up due to how fast paced, demanding and egotistically driven the industry can be – Nipsey’s teachings have always been the driving force behind IYCM. His words remind me to keep flowing, going and growing at a pace I’m happy with, in my own lane.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Worrying about the future, and over-analyzing how I could’ve done better in the past.
