Meet Dwayne Peterkin

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dwayne Peterkin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Dwayne with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

It just comes from within not to mention i believe in myself in what i do. Whenever i want to quit i stop and think why am i doing it in the first place. Also my work ethic comes from my family linage as they are all hard workers so when i want to do something i just do it and pushes me to do my task and give it 110 percent.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am an actor that has been acting for ten years. i also direct write and produce music. What is so special about it is for starters it makes me a jack of all trades, Not to mention i get to meet new people and see new places that i would not of got to see if i wasnt an actor.

What i love as an actor is playing different characters where i can to explore what makes the character and how they operate. i love to get into character, bring it to life and show the world how the story plays out. I also like to tell stories around the world stories that normally do not get told as i love to write drama films, comedy, horror, action, romantic and etc.

I am currently working on a feature film that focuses on young people versus old people where they look into the age difference and why young people should respect old people. I am also in a film that just came out called Police Brutality 3 where Damien confronts the police officers on their corruption, racism towards black people and ice sending immigrants back to their own countries.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My advice to folks that want to start is to create content as creating content gets you into the door faster. You cant sit around waiting for Casting directors to call for you. You have to create skits and short films that will make you stand out.

Another advice i would like to give people that want to start their career is if you are on set do not film what you are doing on set that is what bad actors do. Pay attention to what goes on on set and talk to other actors, director, crew members and learn as you can learn more by observing and talking to people then filming everything and adding it on Instagram stories.

Not to mention if you film and put it on stories people will ask you for the footage eventually and is you cant provide that people will not take you serious. If you ever take a picture or film do not put it out until the film is released. Patience is virtue and on set crew members respect you more for paying attention on set then to film everything putting it on stories and taking pictures and putting it out on social media. Good actors do not talk until the film is out, bad actors film and take photos putting it on social media without having the footage to pack it up.

the three qualities i learned in my acting career is learning to have patience, arrive on time and to treat everybody in respect as you never know where people can end up

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

The biggest growth i had in the last twelve months is to look over things more before doing something as in the past i would just go through it and look into it later. In the last twelve months i have learned to take my time more and look into people and contracts before getting into it and it has helped me a lot. What i did is to stop and think about it and come back to it later with a fresh perspective before i make a decision.

Another improvement i made in the last twelve months is to be a better problem solver by hearing people out and solving problems sufficient and being effective where the problem is solved.
