Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Craig Thorn

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Craig Thorn. Check out our conversation below.

Craig, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
TBH – no. Not as an employee, anyway. I’ve always kinda done my own thing, and would much prefer to build something myself than work for someone else. I always resented it and just found myself to be a pretty wack employee. But as a business owner and entrepreneur, I don’t fall into any of those old habits. It just works for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Cee, I’m an Aussie living in Canada. My life is mostly defined by my two main projects – my social media agency, High Season Co., that I’ve owned and operated with my girlfriend since 2014, and my craft beer podcast, BAOS Podcast, that we kicked off in 2015. I moved to Canada to pursue a music career, and that fortunately didn’t pan out. I wasn’t built for that life. Now I’m focused on growing our two projects, and then finding somewhere warm to live off the land.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The music side, I think. I mean, it’s part of you forever, so I don’t know if it can actually be released for good, but it served its purpose and got me to Canada where I met my partner. I learned a lot in that time – I think the biggest skill is how to make something from nothing. Almost everything we did had $0 budget, but we delivered tons of albums, mixtapes, singles and music videos, all leveraging relationships and the skillsets of the internal team.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Keep going, bro. Keep going. You can do whatever you put your mind to. If you saw how we live right now, you’d lose your mind. We’ve done things in real life that you, as a kid from the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, only ever dreamed of. Don’t ever quit, because you’ll figure it out. Just keep going.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, absolutely. I can’t act, so what you see is what you get. I adapt my personality to the job – I keep it clean and professional for the High Season work, and I’m more relaxed yet thoughtful for the beer podcast. I don’t see the value in playing a character, especially in the worlds that I’m in. People will see right through it, and I think it’d cost me the respect of a lot of folks.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope they say I was a nice guy, funny, helpful, always went out of my way to help others whenever I could. I hope they say I gave back and was proud of it. I hope they say I treat people and the environment around me how I’d like to be treated. I hope they say I followed my heart and gave everything my all. I hope they say he never gave up.
