We recently had the chance to connect with Lina Zinecker and have shared our conversation below.
Lina, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
This might sound funny, but they consist of stretching and vocal warm ups. Acting can take a toll on your voice. There are a lot of performances where I’m not mic’d up and have to project in order to be heard even in the last row. In order for my voice (and body) to sustain that multiple times a week I need to warm up.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello,
My name is Lina and I’m a performer based in NYC!
I’m originally from Germany, but moved to the U.S. to study acting in NYC and LA.
I do both on stage and camera work and have a lot of improv experience as well.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That you have to be excellent at something right away in order to do it. I don’t know what possessed me to think that way! You most likely won’t be that great at something when you first do it and that’s ok. It’s your grit, drive, and ability to keep trying that will set you apart.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Going through multiple rounds of audition and then getting cut after making it to the last round really gets to you. It’s difficult not to internalize the rejection. Those moments can really test you. I do think that those moments are crucial and very important. They highlight why you want to keep going so badly and where you want to end up!
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Being reliable and showing up. Those qualities are extremely important to me. Whether it comes to my career or personal life. I want others to see those qualities in me, but also look for them in everyone I meet. They’re crucial when it comes to building/ gaining trust, being kind, and respectful.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Worrying about things I can’t control! I always try to predict the future. Total waste of time and energy. I definitely need to work on surrendering and letting go of things that I can’t change or control!
