We recently had the chance to connect with Daria Dana and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Daria, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first thing I do when I wake up is brush my teeth and do my skin care routine. After that, I write in my Manifestation Journal for up to 10 minutes. Until I complete these steps and drink a bottle of water, I’m not allowed to open social media on my phone. This helps to ground me and give me direction for the entire day. Afterwards, I usually get right to work on my laptop with whatever feels most pressing or whatever I’m working on at the moment. Sometimes, I’ll bring my laptop to a cafe and work from there instead of home.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the founder of Zigleys, the first and only brand to specialize in real gold for natural Black hairstyles like locs, braids, and twists. We’ve brought luxury to Black hair, despite the two rarely being associated in popular media or Western culture.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents always told me that I was brilliant, intellectually astute, creative, and that I would accomplish great things in and for the world. I could always tell, even when I was a child, that they fully believed it with every fiber of their being. I believe they were seeing me clearly for who I was and what I was capable of. As I’ve gotten older, I realized they were right.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
For as long as I could remember, I had terrible social anxiety and a fear of being perceived. It has delayed me from stepping into the power that I feel within me, and that I know I’m destined for. By intentionally showing up more each day, continuing to be present even when I’m afraid, and allowing myself to practice and get better with time, as well as therapy to address root causes, I’ve slowly but surely gotten better with time. I’m still a work in progress, but I definitely see the progress and I’m excited to see where I am in the next few years.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I truly, firmly, and with every fiber in my being, believe that if I simply follow my intuition, I will accomplish great things while also fulfilling my life’s purpose and truly being happy. I feel that all your wisdom can be found in your intuition. Sometimes what I know or feel to be the right thing to do is not the thing you want to do, and vice versa. Sometimes, you can’t explain why you’re guided to do a certain thing, or pursue a certain path, but I believe in always following the guidance of your intuition, above all else.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m all alone in the middle of the night. The world is asleep, it’s quiet, and it’s just me, my thoughts, and the snacks in my fridge (lol). During that time, I feel alive and free. I love it so, so much. I often have my best ideas at night and get my best work done at night. As an introvert at heart who loves her own company, nothing beats being alone with myself.
