Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Adonis King of Harlem, NYC

We recently had the chance to connect with Adonis King and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Adonis , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
As an Online Fitness Business Owner, I begin my day at 4:30 or 5:00 a.m. My mornings are dedicated to client check-ins, new inquiries, and personal training sessions with my clients. In the afternoon, I focus on marketing and business development. My daily tasks vary, but a significant portion of my work involves programming workouts for clients, creating meal plans, and planning content for my social media channels.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Adonis King, and I’m from Harlem, New York. I am a professional Men Physique Bodybuilder Athlete. I am a business owner and personal trainer, and I’m passionate about helping men and women achieve their fitness goals. I specialize in helping clients lose 20-30 pounds, shed fat, and build muscle within 90 days.

Let me start by saying that I have a strong passion for fitness, exercise, health, and a healthy lifestyle. I live a healthy lifestyle myself, and I believe in leading by example. My goal is to provide people with the right guidance and support to help them achieve their fitness objectives. I use my own experiences and the results I’ve seen with my clients and others to provide them with the best possible advice.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My basketball mentor, Ralph Menar, who was a former St. John’s University Division I player, instilled in me the importance of hard work and discipline. Under his guidance, I was able to secure both a high school and a college basketball scholarship. Ralph always told me “Discipline will take you places motivation can’t, stay focused kid”

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering builds resilience. During a challenging period in my business, the thought of failure developed the mental toughness I needed to recover from setbacks. Overcoming adversity in my business instilled in me the courage to persevere despite rejection and disappointment.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends say winning and being successful is what really matters to me. My friends often jokingly tell me that I’m afraid of failure and I’m afraid of being average, which they respect about me

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
My Clients will likely miss my personalized support, motivation, and expertise that helped them stay committed to their fitness journeys.
