Kirschen ‘TeX ‘ Wolford shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Kirschen ‘TeX ‘, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
My most recent moments that I’m extremely proud of are being the music director of Beauty and the Beast Jr and seeing the progress of the students. The growth is heartwarming
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello Canvas Rebel ! I’m Kirschen ‘TeX’ Wolford and I’m a multi-hyphenated artist. I was born and raised in Dallas graduating frkm Booker T. Washington HSPVA for theatre. From there, I attended a college in Philadelphia titled the University of the Arts where I received my B.F.A. in Acting. I believe wholeheartedly this is when my entire artistry shifted for me. I’ve performed on a national children’s theatre tour and in mainstage plays at the Wilma Theater and Interact Theater in center city Philadelphia. I’ve acted in independent films as well as sound scored and composed music for original plays and films in Dallas and Philadelphia. In 2025, I run my own brand known as TeXThr33. We perform live shows, music workshops, acting workshops, and teaching artistry collaborating with the Martin Luther King Arts Academy and the Cistercian Preparatory School. Lastly, to all the kids with a dream, anything is possible !!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that really shaped how I view the world is the day my baby sister passed away to kidney failure. It showed me how life is not fair. After falling into a mental crisis, I became more aligned. I started being more aware of time. I walk by faith even more. I take more risks. I’m never afraid of embarrassment or failure. I became more disciplined and consistent. I begin training my mind and body more than ever before. Most of all, it gave me a bigger purpose.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me how to pay more attention to detail. In the midst of success, you can get caught moving around a lot that you lose sight of the little things. Back in April of this year I was diagnosed with epilepsy. It’s a battle everyday. It has shown me how taking care of my physical health is ultimately important. If I’m not here to create the art, it can’t be created
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
As a recent recipient of the Culture of Value grant distributed by the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture, I strongly value diversity and equity. I feel like it builds community from the inside out. I use to teach in Philadelphia at the Village of Arts and Humanities and I loved seeing the students create from an original and authentic space. In my opinion, it guarantees ownership when it’s coupled with a thoughtful business strategy.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
One thing I understand deeply is how to communicate with emotional intelligence. The texthr33 brand would not have the level of success it has without it. As I’ve traveled on this journey, I’ve encountered so many different individuals who don’t look, speak, or act like me. However, I still find ways to network and make conversation which usually leads to some kind of opportunity. I pride myself on knowing how to adapt in any environment.
