An Inspired Chat with Matthew Corozine of theatre district manhattan

We recently had the chance to connect with Matthew Corozine and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Matthew , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
waking early. setting intentions for my day-programming my mind for what I want. work out. teach in miami or fly to NYC and teach in NYC. right now splitting my time between NYC and MIami running 2 Acting Schools.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Acting Coach/Artistic Director/ Creator and owner of Matthew Corozine Acting Studio (MCS) in New York City and Miami and online. Just celebrated 25 years in a big celebration in New York City on Sept. 7, 2025. MCS has been coaching actors and artists to “get outta your head” since 2000; from broadway, film and TV and working internationally MCS actors have taken the transformational work of The Meisner Technique around the world. Our Meisner -based Technique empowers the artist to break free from their “stories and limited beliefs” and embrace and condition behaviour and responses from their unique impulses and instincts.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Free and fully accepted myself. I love this question. This is what we ask of our actors at MCS. who were you before the world told you who you had to be? we needed to build the walls and masks to survive life– we all had to split oursleves at a young age to survive middle school thus the title of my book I wrote in 2022 IF YOU SURVIVED 7TH GRADE, YOU CAN BE AN ACTOR -Applying the Meisner Technique to Get outta your head in Acting and in Life. when we truly get the cost of what that old story is doing to us, we can start to let it go.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
my old story, “If I will be myself, I will be rejected” and I think I subconsciously rejected myself. Our limited beliefs become programs and your brain has to make it true to not have cognitive disonance. So of course I became an actor, where I had to bring parts of my truth to strangers and audition and GET REJECTED over and over. I needed rejection to know who I am. This started young when I grew up in a Christian home in the 70’s and 80’s and dealing with my sexuality and being gay, I split myself add a young age, hid and rejected parts of me in fear of being found out. had a lot of secrets and shame–needed fantasy to survive so of course it led me to acting.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
truth. loyalty. important to constantly evolve and change and grow. forever curious. coaching and teaching. fitness. and ofcourse acting and self expression.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
because of my work, I think it demands I am conscious of things that most people in their daily lives are not. Not taking anything for granted, the important of moments. connection is everything. how the mind “takes care of us” and how do get into the creative state. the strength of vulnerability, sensitivities and to use all the things you were teased when you were kid and locked up. when you give up looking good you end of looking so good!
